Oh, ok you were being serious. I thought that was a joke, like an obvious one because that trade was so ridiculous. We aren’t getting Trac for Noble and a mid/late second rounder, that’s just stupid.

You know...

I was thinking a lot more about this whole situation and everything going on with Trac, the vile shit being said about him in the media and now seeing the above attitude towards his trade possibilities and its a little bit sad to be frank.

Maybe we need to take a step back and get a little perspective on the whole thing?

It's been revealed Christian Petracca nearly died on the operating table.

Think about that for one second. He almost died.

Now go back to King's Birthday and look not only at what happened, but think about what could have happened. The Collingwood players all actively avoided any serious contact with Christain knowing full well he was seriously hurt. With some players even directly asking him if he's sure he should be out there.

Melbourne on the other hand, sent him out there most likely knowing he had a serious injury. Trac only just recently signed a long term deal and yet is choosing to escape the club after this incident. What does that tell you about this whole situation and Melbourne's role in it? Sounds to me like they took a gamble on Trac's life which probably doesn't sit well with him or his family.

I'd wager Christian and his mum in particular wondered what the f**k would have happened if someone like Beau absolutely ran through Christian when he got back out on that field. What if he died? Out on the field? You'd most likely have Goodwin and the club Doctor up on manslaughter charges. Beau god only knows. Maybe he goes up on manslaughter charges? Maybe he goes into a deep depression as a result of what he unintentionally did and chooses a dark path for himself? Then what happens? Melbourne and the AFL are sued into oblivion?
Yeah the above is an extreme and rather dark example of what could have gone wrong but it's still was a possibility.

I don't think Melbourne is in a position to be making too many demands on what they get here given what's transpired and what could have transpired.

They gave us f#ck all for Grundy in our "desperate" situation so again, might be time to return that favour. Melbourne right now should be more concerned about not getting sued by the Petracca family.

If he nominates us as his club of choice (which of course is no guarantee), I was just trying to propose a deal that was within the bounds of what we have as options knowing we need a first rounder next year for McGuane, what Melbourne needs in terms of their list (they need forwards). That's probably about as good as we can do? They'd be getting pick 20, Lukosius and another forward in maybe Ash or Kreuger.

I wasn't saying it was a perfect deal or even a truly fair one.

No need to be a smart ass about it.

Rather get Tomlinson for nothing than give up anything half decent for Keane
Prefer we stick with Frampton, Moore, Dean and Eyre.
Keane is flakey and won't hesitate to go back to Ireland at a moments notice. Adelaide would also want a good 2nd rounder for him. Tomlinson is too old. I don't see him costing much but if a few clubs are interested we might have to give him 3 years to get him across.

I wasn’t being a smart arse, I genuinely thought you were making a joke.

That aside, we don’t need a first rounder next year for McGuane. Preference would be to not trade it out this year and see where our pick sits vs where a bid is expected, but if there’s a Petracca type available and that pick gets it over the line you use it every single time.

Everything else you wrote in regards to why Melbourne would accept less is just pie in the sky wishful thinking.

So what you're saying is Melbourne should feel guilty about what they've done and therefore give Track away, quite sure they won't see it that way.

I'm not arguing whether they'd accept it or not. I"m not even trying to say it's a GREAT deal or even a fair one.

They might not even have a choice. If Petracca gets the AFL directly involved and uses all the power at his disposal via the PA charter or whatever it is.

You really need to stop posting shit like this. Even in your "dark example', there is no manslaughter, at worst a wrongful death action which gets covered by insurance. And no, the "Petracca family"(wtf does that mean anyway - he is not a child) have no available action against Melbourne.

So he, his Dad and mum aren't Petracca's?

You don't reckon his parents would have gone through much in this and aren't partially a catalyst for his current desire to leave?

Reckon this situation has gone beyond just a "pure football" situation.

Watching Keane in that Showdown was like watching a rabbit in the headlights.

Sam McClure on the Tradies podcast this morning said he thinks Adam Tomlinson will be at Collingwood next year.

Mitch Cleary responded saying he has heard Pies and Saints are the two that are interested.
Why does this feel like
  • Will Brodie
  • Callow
  • Fiorini
  • etc?

Of course they are Petraccas. The question is what sort of legal action might they have against Melbourne FC?

I mean, this is ultimately my read on the situation, but if everything here was above board? Christian probably wouldn't be wanting out.

The fact that he seemingly wants out so bad tells me that everything most certainly wasn't above board in how the club dealt with this. Negligence? Malpractice? (kinda the same thing)? I dunno. But then it's not like people haven't sued organisations for less (and lost).

Don't want Tracs 5 year 7 million dollar contract which ends when he is nearly 35.
Don't want to give up our future 1st, picks from Richards, Noble, Hawks 2nd and a player like IQ to get Melbourne to agree.
McRae said we can't afford his contract or Melbourne's asking price.
At best I see this contract being in the future for Melbourne like Buddy's in which he looked great but the team kept losing future stars because Buddy was getting all the cash. Or at worst the contract ends up being a future Grundy like situation where Melbourne have to trade him out for not much and pay a big part of his contract to try to stay in contention.

Seriously, if you dunno, then best not to speculate. Trotting out words like negligence and malpractice is meaningless. I'll say it again, there is no action available.

The only questionable decision was the one to let Petracca go back out onto the ground. There is nothing to say that he did any further damage during that short period of time. Game over.

It’s all to build and then justify a narrative to get Petracca to Collingwood for a deflated price that Melbourne won’t agree to. It’s fairyland bullshit.

If any action is taken against the Demons the most extreme form it will take will be to force the issue of a trade. The receiving club will still need to be serious about the trade price because any further action beyond a trade will take an abundance of time.

In effect Petracca doesn’t get to Collingwood for some lint we found in our pockets as Fly referenced publicly only last night.

I feel like making it work at Collingwood is where Richards wants to be, it’s probably about understanding where he could actually play in terms of spots wise. Is it wing?

He’s from country Vic, would want his family to be able to drive to games and watch him. Port don’t have that luxury for him.

Yuck.

Would rather back in Dean/Eyre or do a medical on James Van Es as a DFA.

He didn't do further damage.

Mainly because our players actively avoided it.

I never said he did further damage. I was talking about a hypothetical scenario where further serious damage could have been done.

We can probably add Ash or Krueger in for Melbourne too

In the end, Trac wants out and most likely wants to come to us

Given what we have at our disposal and how desperately Trac wants out Melbourne is getting two forwards, pick 20 and a shit tonne of freed up cap space

Could be worse
So pick 20 (Noble) plus Ash Johnson and Freddie Kreuger for Petracca and that could be worse, from a Melbourne perspective no, I don't think it could be worse than that. Gotta love the Bigfooty bundle!
