Thankyou, great comment. He can win his own ball, but 'clearances' aren't 'first possession' (although they can be interelated).
Stats aside, we ideally want a really good 'first possession' at bounces ball magnet to get a cheeky handball to to Daics for the elite 'clearance'.
A younger Tom Mitchell. A drug free Clayton Oliver. Hayden Young from Freo is a ripper on this front. Ed Allen showed something in this regard in the last round (albeit a dead rubber) and we would love him to step up. Can Perryman be that guy? Or get Maynard in the guts?
Without Mitch and Adams this year (and JDG injured a lot), we had times where we got smashed through the guts like after a long evening on the piss followed by a 2am curry from a Bain Marie.
Thankyou, great comment.
You are absolutely correct, at times we got smashed through the guts this year without the one, big bodied in and under mid who goes in there and delivers it to our stars who, whether anyone claims otherwise or not, are more potent on the outside than on the inside.
As you said, "clearances" are not first possessions.
...and do we want Nick Daicos to bear the brunt of that physical brutality? You take care of your geniuses, you don't send them in to be brutally bashed just because they're good at withstanding it and still escaping with the ball. You want your genius to remain pristine for as long as possible.
Apart from Titch, there is no one on our list who (yet) is fully capable of playing this role, or even an approximation to it.
We are totally dependent upon the improvement of Ed Allan and Ned Long this year in such a role. Hopefully, this does happen. But we haven't taken any insurance out on this.
I thought Perryman plays primarily HB. Granted, he can play through the midfield. but that doesn't sound like the profile of the kind of player I think we need to buttress our midfield. We’ve brought in Perryman for this. Houston also frees up our existing players
Loved Stan!I'm sure he has nightmares about Stan Magro...
It was jezzas fault, he should have got out the way
Should have included a sense of hearing as well. If Harmes was 3 rows back (which he was) then the siren went 5 minutes before Kerry Good marked that ball in the 19080 night GF. Was devastated as a kid wondering when something would go right for usJust before the 1979 Grand Final - the then VFL changed the rule that boundary umpires require a degree of sight
How many weeks these days?It was jezzas fault, he should have got out the way
10 easilyHow many weeks these days?
EfaHow many months these days?
Yep, although with Stan loading probably more. He played an ‘uncompromising’ style of footy10 easily
Probably. Yet back then it was an iconic celebrated moment. Shows how much things have changed. Different times
Was thinking because of this we could maybe afford to give IQ or Maynard a promotion to the midfield. Worth a shot. We’ve brought in Perryman for this. Houston also frees up our existing players
Perryman and Houston add a whole range of options and flexibility, which is exactly what Fly is after. Was thinking because of this we could maybe afford to give IQ or Maynard a promotion to the midfield. Worth a shot.
Happened right in front of meIt was jezzas fault, he should have got out the way
Sorry, but your turning my head inside out.I also want Nick breaking from stoppage with ball in his hands, but I think we'll get that more often with Nick getting to the rukman's feet, as well as getting others breaking from stoppage more often after Nick handballs have put them in the clear.
To me, this is Nick's progression:
Y1 develops into one of the best outside players in the league
Y2 becomes the best outside player in the league and starts developing his inside game
Y3 develops into one of the best inside players in the league - and he was last year despite some still thinking of him as an outside player
Y4 he'll become the best inside player in the league as well as being the best outside player in the league.
He's ****ing extraordinary.
It's easy, Y=3 to the power of one, which is Nick DaicosSorry, but your turning my head inside out.
That with ciabatta bread hot mustard. Bottle of wine. Yum
Agree on the "woe is me" narratives but you gotta call a spade a spade as well. A few times last year "rule of the week" was in vogue on the Friday night and suddenly disappeared the remainder of the round. 3 immediately spring to mind.I'm never on these "woe is us" narratives, but I do think this one has legs. I'm convinced the umpires were looking at us more closely late in games in 2024 because we were so good at shutting games down. Insufficient intent, holding the ball, time wasting, all disproportionately paid against us at key times.
My view is that they saw what we were doing in 2023 and wanted to crack down on it, league wide, knowing other clubs would follow the Premier. Because we were the example we copped more attention than others. So I'd lean more to "premier bias" rather than anti Collingwood bias.
Sorry, but your turning my head inside out.
FFS, Y just meant year. It's easy, Y=3 to the power of one, which is Nick Daicos
What about some Fava beans and a chianti? That with ciabatta bread hot mustard. Bottle of wine. Yum
And a human liver. What about some Fava beans and a chianti?
Well, he kind of did...eventually.It was jezzas fault, he should have got out the way
