How can Collingwood target a Rowell or Petracca without a 2025 first round pick and likely needing to pay for McGuane? We won’t be trading in anyone big next year.

Picks 2 years in advance

Two years of future picks become tradeable next year.

Why won’t he leave?
From what I know, he loves it there.
But no harm in asking
I imagine they'll re-sign him before round 1
But if he isnt signed by mid season, thats when it could be real.

Would be an incredible pick up if we could pull it off

We also can't rule it out because if someone had told us we'd have a crack at Houston despite giving away our 2024 first for Schultz everyone would have called you crazy

So....awesome?

We’ll be able to trade picks 2 years in advance from 2025 onwards.

We'll also need to dig into 2026 picks to make sure we have enough points for tommy too
Not necessarily. Way too early to be declaring that. We have no idea if Tommy will be an early or late first round bid and we don’t know what our player movement will look like. We get another Noble/Richards situation next year and suddenly we have a lot more points.

Of course. I'm just basing it around no outgoing trades. The fact it will cost more, even if he is a late first rounder I think picks in the 20s and 30's prob needed.
But of course player movement if there is any, will help with that

obviously will be better for us if he is a late 1st rather than early, less picks we'll have to use.

Leppa will get him across with the secret ranga compelling handshake. It's a command that rangas have to follow.

We will have access to 2 future 1sts from next year. Many other teams will have 3.
It will result in players costing more as a result of every club having more assets to deal with. We won’t be able to provide them with immediate draft relief (only future picks) which will also cost more. Out of our budget

Yeah I do think 2 years in advance will hold less value - some teams will use that to bank picks though.

Honestly if next years draft is as weak as projected there’s every chance clubs will prefer future picks anyway.

And I’m not sure more assets will automatically mean that clubs will be willing to throw more away. Future firsts have been available for a decade now and clubs still won’t usually give up two firsts in a deal without something significant like a pick in the 20’s back unless they’re very late firsts.

I was pushing for this since I found out he comes out of contract at the end of next year.

The only way I can see us having a remote chance at getting him, is if we consider trading someone like de goey to get a tom barras like compensation. Which will only go part of the way in addressing the compensation required to even get the conversation started.

GC would no doubt set his price at 3 first round picks as a starting point.

Unfortunately with our aging list and the need to bring in more young players,I can't see us trading any more future picks for the foreseeable future.
