I usually like Gleeson but some of the content there is poorly researched. His statement about us being unable to trade futures because of the 2 in 4 rule doesn’t take in to account the likelihood of McGuane being a first round bid next year. Given those circumstances suddenly we’ve taken first round draftees in 3 out of the previous 4 years.

Seems like a very pessimistic take on where the club is at tbh.

Also ignores that you don't have to trade firsts to recruit mature blokes. End of 2022 trade haul didn't include a first and got us Hill, McStay, Mitchell, Frampton.

The only issue I can see is that what we're doing is the way to go in the current market. This is likely to lead to other teams switching to it - thus shifting the market and making recruits more expensive. To me that's the real risk.

I don't know the details. Main thrust though seems reasonable: the choices are understandable but that doesn't remove the doubts.

If you can't see doubt and the potential failure of any recruiting strategy then you're not looking closely enough. There's no way of gaining certainty of a prosperous future.

DFA ends tommorow so It looks very Doubtful he gets Signed now

Importantly, Picks 60 and 66 would have been burnt early in the draft through the Lion's matching bids - we'll be able to trade these picks later in the draft and they'll have more points associated with them (as other team's matched picks get burnt) - so it could be that the points value to us will be much greater than they ever would have been to the Lions.
