Just another journo missing the point that Houston and Perryman aren't just about 2025 - they're also about trying to extend our window past the coming big name retirements.

Replacing players of similar ages on the list but material upgrades.

The only player who has made our list older is membrey and he was just too good a gift to pass up on.

Hard to make sense of the pick swap as an individual trade.

For one thing, we don't have the list spots to actually have 66 be an active pick for us.

Second, Brisbane have actually lost 56 points.

Surely must be part of bigger thinking.

That's definitely more likely, gives them an extra 61 points. Not sure of the status of their list spots though.

My guess is we've agreed to an in-draft pick swap with Brisbane for pick 49 likely to be left over after they match Ashcroft bid and this is the first part of it.

Brisbane probably couldnt take both picks in so this part of it will have increased their points slightly. And then we'll increase them again by swapping two of our picks for 49.

Otherwise not sure how it makes sense...if they select Markov and Johnson in the draft what is the term/ commitment - 2 yrs? I thought that would be via Rookie draft process?

Means we can trade 1 of the 4 picks into next year, and still take 3 picks this year

Seems like a no risk play to potentially package some picks and move up the order.

Picks 58 will be swallowed by FS / academy picks and pick 59 (Sydney) will likely be swallowed by their academy kid Joel Cochran

So now it would be in our interest for a bid for Ashcroft to come later in the first round, as Brisbane would be more likely to have reasonable picks left over.

I've just been told that even though we've committed to AJ and Markov, right now and up until the rookie draft itself they aren't on our list. So for all intents and purposes, we have extra spots for the senior list technically (we just won't use them).
