He’s not shown a lot in his career to date, to be honest. Reliable but unremarkable
See, he meant that setup. After taking the wicket, he signalled in his celebration that that was the straight one, the overspinner.

Anyone above a certain level of cricket as a spinner should have setups, but that was a degree of execution that you don't see all that often.

Absolutely just saying that in his test career previously he’s not shown a hell of a lot when there hasn’t been much on offer.

Well done to the WI.

They've shown real character in their two upset wins over the past year - both times coming back from seemingly hopeless positions.

As for PAK, as usual they stumble from crisis to crisis because they address their problems using short-term bandaids, rather than long-term solutions (like changing their perpetually dysfunctional team culture). Going for rank turners against ENG was understandable, because qualitatively they were a better side and such extreme conditions do reduce the gap, but this was completely unnecessary against WI, and they've paid the price.

Unless he has another speed, he looks a bit too slow through the air for his variations to get through the batsman unless the pitch is exaggerating the variations.

That's the problem with home teams preparing tracks designed for their spinners - visiting teams have spinners too.

And you are banking on your spinners and batsmen outperforming their visiting counterparts. And it doesn't always work out that way.

As they say in the classics - if anyone can, Warrican.

It's the same with seaming decks. India had one good bowler for old fashioned Aussie pitches with less seam movement. Aussies would have killed India. India wouldn't have been able to skittle us with one good bowler. The workload on Bumrah would have been enormous and he would have been worn out by the third test - leaving a massive gulf in the bowling.

Justice.

**** pitch doctoring.
I used to think that, but doesn't worry me at all anymore - I like games on dodgy tracks where the batsmen are never really set. And also I don't think it's an advantage at the moment. When teams move away from their typical home conditions, they're giving up their home condition advantage. As long as teams don't fear the oppositions spinners and seamers and move to boring draw pitches, I'm happy.

But at the same time are you happy matches finishing in 2 days? They're over so fast that it doesn't feel like a test match...You don't get the proper ebbs & flows of a longer game

Yeah, the novelty factor may wear off soon.

This is why the West Indies shouldn't be relegated to a second division of test cricket, great fightback, Pakistan on the other hand.

Neither should in all honesty.

Of course we shouldn’t be.

The only teams we haven’t beaten in the last few years are India, SA and NZ, and we have only played 2 tests against NZ in the last 7 years, both away - and the only other 2 we’ve played against them in the last 12 years were away, as well.

Last time we hosted NZ, we beat them in a test.

I don’t think we could fluke a win against SA at the moment.

I think we could maybe sneak one against India on a good day given their batting issues. Pending someone being able to survive Bumrah long enough to craft a flukey 80-100 of course
