afldraftcentral.com.au write up on Luke Foley:

#29 Luke Foley (Subiaco/Western Australia)

The over-age midfielder has found his straps this season after missing out on being drafted last year. He has become more influential with and without the ball, making good decisions and using it well through the midfield and around the ground. He has a consistent base week-in, week-out and could provide some immediate relief to a team craving an inside midfielder. He made the WAFL Colts Team of the Year despite battling injuries at times, and was solid through the National Under 18 Championships. Expected to be the third or fourth West Australian drafted behind Ian Hill and Jordan Clark, and perhaps Sydney Stack.

Plenty on here ridiculed Blakely and Banfield in their draft years and they are solid players at worst. Foley was taken around the same range so I'll reserve judgement.

Everyone just needs to relax a bit, there was a lot of pissing and moaning last year about guys that we overlooked (Charlie Constable comes to mind) and that all worked out pretty well.

Every year people moan that we aren't drafting midfielders, this year we use our first two picks on a mid who has a write up that makes him sound like Shuey mark 2 (O'Neill) and another that sounds like a good outside option (Foley). Add in that we have secured possibly the best young ruck talent and a home grown small forward and I think we can call this a good day.

I get the impression our recruiters go into the draft knowing who they want and they aren't afraid to use any draft pick to get them.
The annoying part about that is that we don’t use it to our advantage. If we want a guy rated 50+ at 27 why aren’t we trading 27 for 30 something and 50.. instead of just reaching massively at mid 20s picks

Started with 20 and 22 which became 23 and 25 after academy bids

Leveraged those into 28,31 and 35 plus an upgrade of next years third rounder to Sydney’s second round pick whilst retaining a pick(s) sufficient to match Brisbane’s Cameron bid

Good trading

Used the picks on two mids and a project ruck/forward which addresses our list needs

Williams is a sound pick as he’ll be afforded plenty of opportunity to develop at WAFL level before being thrown in the deep end

Time will tell how O’neil and Foley pan out and the guys who selected him have far more knowledge than I do about their merits relative to others that were available. Feels like we’ve reached for both of them somewhat though much like we did with Ainsworth

Jury well and truly out on the recruiting

Good luck to all four lads and let’s hope they all thrive with their newly acquired wings

Just watched O'Neill's highlights on the eagles' twitter, he's got great poise and balance, plus a good shape and limberness for a midfielder. You hate to throw names at these young kids, but that's what I'm going to do regardless because yolo. If all goes to plan, he could have the poise and decision-making of Sam Mitchell, and the tall-bodied mid movement of Yeo, with a bit of Shuey-esque zip away from the contest

Finally Talyor to North. I was starting to wonder about his off field behavour or attitude. Big slide.

Because we no doubt rated him very highly - perhaps in the top 15-20...

So 10 Brownlow's guaranteed?

His highlights do look good but they said on the fox coverage that he averaged about 19poss in TAC Cup. Not enough for a midfielder I think.
Anyone know where we can get some more reliable stats?
