I see Valente as a pretty safe bet.

Not vanilla but similar to Duggan when drsfted that you are fairly certain he will be good enough to succeed at the top level.

Agree with this and unlike Duggan I am confident that Valente is a genuine midfielder.

So with our picks we should have a bet each way.

O'Halloran and Valente are my dream draft duo for us. Bingo. :thumbsu:

But one of those plus a Smith or Hill would still be a great duo.:whitecheck:

Surely with Rioli, Ryan, Cripps, Venables, Petreculle and Cameron as those HFF type options, Hill isn't much of a priority.

Looks a good option on the cheap.
Plays a bit like Dean Cox in that he floats forward to kick goals and reads the play well to drop back and take intercept marks in defence. Also a couple of nice pieces of ground work and obviously a good ruckman- 205cm helps.
Well worth looking at with a pick in the 70s or rookie draft.
How old is he

Draft Machine out this week is a joke. They should have planned to have it up and running as soon as the trade period was over.

Yeah probably not a priority, would be just if he was best available.

I wonder if they will try Petrucelle on a back flank next year in the WAFL. You figure they have to give him a shot there to see how he goes. Sometimes defence is easier to play for those who are reasonably new to the game.

Petrol's pace out of the bigger goal squares could be handy

Here I was thinking I cracked a joke in response to Monocle's joke? Did the winky emote not turn up in some people's browsers or something?

Anyway...here's me raising my hands in a non threatening manner and backing away slowly.
Ha ha it was clearly a joke . People are so sensitive

I see Hill as ahead of Cameron but the gap has narrowed significantly. I can see us taking both and that would be ok.

Here are 3 scenarios
A) O’Halloran, Valente, Cameron
B) Hill, Valente, Cameron
C) Hill, Valente, pick 61 because of early Cameron bid unmatched

I would go for A slightly over B and well ahead of C. A and B are both good outcomes. And OK to vary the mids in A we take ie Smith Kennerley etc
Yeah its a tough call
The only 2 young pure mids we have on our list currently are ainsworth and brayshaw, both inside mids so this could play a part in the recruiting teams strategy come draft day

I dont know why brayshaw is even being talked up . Treacle slow and not in the mould of his brothers. He will be delisted next year

Maybe but if he can play he'll get his chance and my point remains, we dont have any outside mids currently not in the best 22

Rohan O'Brien on the road to the draft podcast. It was a good listen.

Comments on players:
- venables: hopefully he can progress into the midfield
- rioli: had liked for 3 years.
- ryan: wasn't ready for the system in '17
- brander/oscar: wanted them to play back and forward this year for development
- lycett: only knew he was leaving after the GF
- kelly: Wells is a campaigner, we will try again next year. we had tracked him for a few years.

this year's draft:
- amazing talent at the top of the draft, top 8-9. after that it's a good draft, but most drafts are good.
- order is reasonably set, some last minute adjustments for medical
- working through some draft day scenarios
- 1-2 interviews still to do
- we aren't locked into any types of individuals. we will just have our rankings in order.
- the new dimension is trading on the night. this may present opportunities for us on the night. we have planned scenarios around trading for picks if there is a player that we want there. we are open to any deals that benefit us.
- will use 3 or 4 picks, most likely 4.
- have nominated Jarrod. will make an assessment on matching on the night. he has done some good things this year. we mostly left him alone this year to develop

Draft generally
- worry the draft is getting too compromised, e.g. if someone is getting a benefit then someone is paying (at this point I loudly shouted "Amen!")
- draft age is fine
