Has this Cyril thing got legs?

Lawd have mercy if we have 2x Rioli and Ryan in the Fwd 50.
About as much legs as Kurt Fearnley has I’d suggest

It’s a nice dream but that’s as far as it’ll get

I think we are fine in terms of the first round rule anyway.

I’m just glad we get a pick on the first night.

How’s the speculation going to be over-night when we are picking second on day 2?

And so good that we have the rookie draft too. Six new players will be picked up by the club in what is set to be a HUGE day of drafting.

Hmmmm. Not a great result... "An end-of-first-round compensation selection does not count in a club's rolling four-year tally."

Am I reading it wrong?
You have to have used at least 2 first round picks in 4 years?

Yet Geelong will have used 1 with no pick this year and same for Collingwood (however a F&S bid counts as first round, so they are ok)

Also next year Essendon will have only used 1 in 4 years unless they trade one in?

So what am I missing?

Just had a thought.

The two kids we pick up with 20 + 22 plus Kelly next year we should name the Kelly Gang due to the Cats knocking back those picks.

Hopefully they are mids and all three come together to play some good footy for years to come.

Don't see how we have to pick up kids with 20 and 22. Wouldn't be opposed to a mature age talent for an immediate boost to our premiership defence (still feels weird saying that, btw), with Kelly following next year.

Any standout mature age talent in the WAFL or otherwise?

Currently yes, but I'm looking to the future. Assuming we trade our 1st rnd next year for Kelly - then we'll be locked in to taking our 1st round 2020 pick to the draft (i.e. unable to trade it - except for the unlikely scenario where it is traded for another 1st round pick) - as 2017 will be the only preceding year we have taken a rnd 1 pick.

of course we are picking a round 1 player this year - but that doesn't count

It is just very odd...

I see it differently. For me, the concern for 2019 is Hurn and Jetta. Jet's calves were fragile this year, and gave out in the GF - could have been fatal. I presume his calves will be even more shonky next season
As for Hurn, he is getting on and the game is getting quicker. He needs to shed 6-8 kilos as he doesn't have the pace to go with many of the half forward flankers nowadays - ex . Varcoe.
For me half back flankers with good kicking ability is more urgent than topping up on midfielders.
Just my take on things, as I see them running Mallen through the midfield in 2019 and then TK in 2020.
