Hill has Jarrod Pickett written all over him.

Dominated juniors and looked a million bucks against smaller opponents, but just doesn't have the skills/attributes for a role at AFL level.

Mike Sheehan (genius) said he had the skills and traits of Peter Matera, also that he could play midfield, as did many other AFL.priddis experts.

And yet he is laughably bad at AFL level. I see the same thing potentially happening with Hill, like it's slowly happening with SPP, stuck in the forward line after playing midfield in his junior years.

I don't think you can say Hill dominates due to his size.

Not that I think it matters because he won't reach us.

So I am struggling on Hill.

Given we have Cameron on as a NGA discount and can cheaply go into deficit next year, we add that to Rioli Venables Ryan and Petrucelle and we have less of a need for Hill. He was electric at times in 2017 and disappointed for a load of 2018.

If we want midfielders, then stay away from Hill. With his demise and Cameron’s improvement, there is little between them is impact and upside potential.

In terms of changing my mind, this was not were I was at 12 months ago. This is one development trajectory that has me uncertain.

It's looking like he might drop a fair way...Be worth it for mine if we can land another pick between 25-40. (He might be the big slider this draft)

Why does Marsden get used in every single comparison?

Is this because the last act of any player on the football field in the grand final was Chris Marsden getting ragdolled probably HTB before the siren went?

(Not even joking, look it up)
My only GF memory of Marsden is his 25-30m kick on goal to finally put us in front in the last 1/4.

My rough preferences of the non Academy/fs players. Am I missing anyone?

Not a heap of pure mids in our pick range?

1-9 no chance
Rankine
Walsh
Lukocious
Smith
M. King
B. King
Rozee
Caldwell
Hateley

10-15 very keen but unlikely
RCD
Duursma
Stocker
Jones
Butters
Clark

16-23 in rough order
Taylor - forward/mid
O’Halloran - gen mid
McLennan - gen def
Sturt - gen fwd
McHenry - small fwd/mid
Hill - flanker/wing
Valente - gen mid
Smith - inside mid

Would only want to select one of Taylor, Hill, Sturt or McHenry with 20 or 22.

Next best:
Kennerly - wing
Stack - fwd/mid
Williams - fwd/ruck
Foley - gen mid

Just from the highlights, he looks like he has the kicking capacity to be Jetta-like elite, which I don't see from a lot of the other youngsters. Is that accurate of his general play? If so, would seem to fit our kicking game nicely.

The “who will the crows take at the pick between our two pick” question is really interesting.

Will we sinply be taking who we want most or leaving him if we think Adelaide won’t be keen.

If at 20 we had the choice of Valente or Hill who would we take?

Good chance Crows would jump on Valente next pick.

Not so sure about Hill.

One inside and one outside mid / half back is what we should be looking at.

Hill definately fits our kicking game. Very astute when to kick short or long, down field or cross field.

So he could be a Masten replacement or a potential Jetta replacement off half back.

I don’t see the Crows picking Hill at the pick in between ours so I’d leave Hill at 20 - get the best available genuine inside mid (Would also go balanced mid) and assume Hill is there at our 22.

It is about the pairing. There should be enough quality available to run a risk with Adelaide inside our 2 picks. So assume we go Valente at 20, we should have a choose of one of Hill O’halloran Kennerly or Smith at 22 so we can hopefully relax

Let's be honest now, that's just speculation with nothing behind it apart from Valente being decent and from SA.

We have no idea who clubs are intending on taking where.

Crows are chasing quality mids.

Thr SA u 18 captain is one.

Fits a need with no go home factor.
Haven't seen many quality mids with 0 AFL games. ;)

Maybe I'm just cynical because I haven't followed the crop this year at all.

Reading between the lines of what BOND 007 was saying.
It sounds like the current projected draft order may not look anything like the real thing.

A fair few favourites may slide, a lot of value around later in the draft. (I think that's what he/she was alluding to)

I only vaguely recall the post but did he mean the draft order with regards to clubs?

Hill can kick , last year we would be dreaming to land him on our list as I and perhaps most of us would have expected Freo to pick him , perhaps injuries have affected his form this year .
Underage against bigger kids he was good . I suspect playing against bigger bodies won't affect him in the long run .

Wil Hickmott article on afl.com.au , models his game off andrew gaff. Any love for him with one of our picks?

last year we took Brander with our first rounder and then took another forward in Oscar Allen with our 2nd, simply because Ollen was a highly rated WA talent that slid. If Ian Hill is available, regardless of our commitment to getting Cameron late, we should be 100% take him and develop him as an outside mid who can push forward. Plus we can pick up an inside mid with our other 2nd rounder. In my personal view, He is simply too good of a talent too let slip if available.

The fact his father is an assistant coach of ours may give us a front running at him. We may also be happy to give him a spot on the main list as opposed to the rookie list
If Carlton didn't nominate him, how good can he be? Genuine query, not having a crack.

Carlton have pick 1 then 3 picks in the 70s
I also think there is another silvagni they need points for so hickmott may have been out of their reach.

Maybe wil doesn't want to go to carlton ?
