Traded Patrick Dangerfield [traded w/ pick 50 to Geelong for 9, 28 and Gore]

The Crows are being smart. $800 k makes it hard for Geelong, they can't pay him more as it doesn't fit in the pay structure there. The only way Geelong get him as a FA is if they pay him $1 million per year and make it impossible for Adelaide to match.

Adelaide will match the bid of $800 k. Geelong are going to hand over their first pick in 2015 & in 2016.
Geelong will overpay Danger if they don't commit to one of Scott Selwood or Henderson which I can't see happening.

I can't see Geelong giving up that much at the trade table to be honest if Adelaide match as they have committed to these other 2 already even though they have the salary cap room for them, I don't think they have enough trade assets even with future picks to get all 3 players in, they would have to give up another young talent which was not in their plan imo. Dangerfield and Henderson are worth at least 3 first rounders and Geelong does not have that, they have 2, unless Carlton are content with 2 years worth of 2nd rounders for Henderson.

I can see this one dragging out a long time if Adelaide match, that brings Hawthorn and others into the frame potentially.

The path will become clear when all parties announce their intentions at present it's all conjecture. And to conject myself, the cats already have the where with all to meet the crows needs without having to dip into next years stronger draft, they just have to be prepared to pay the fair price, first round top 10 pick and one of Motlop, Cockatoo or Gregson.

Although I'm not quite sure why you picked that post of mine to reply to as it is of little relevance, I generally agree with your post.

The piece in bold is the substantive point I've been making.
If Adelaide and Geelong are unwilling to come to a compromise (highly unlikely IMO), I strongly believe Adelaide and Danger will communicate as to an order of preference of where he would go if Geelong were out of play. Obviously other clubs would be willing to cough up picks to satisfy Adelaide as well as clear the necessary cap space to accomodate Dangers ~800k salary. Danger, you'd think, would rather go to a Hawthorn than a BL too for instance.

If Geelong offer a huge money 1 year contract, that the Crows couldn't match, this would be a way around the Cats not having to trade for him.

Crows will try and match that too - they can keep Danger even longer. Danger becomes ineligible for unrestricted FA in this case and has to wait another 2 years.

RESTRICTED FREE AGENTS
Players who are in the top 25 per cent of salaries at their club (that is, in the club’s top nine-10 paid players) are eligible for restricted free agency the first time they are out of contract, if they have served at least eight years with the club.
For example, a player who is contracted after his seventh year for one, two, three, four or five years will be eligible for restricted free agency when next out of contract having completed either eight, nine, 10, 11 or 12 seasons respectively.
A top 25 per cent player is eligible for unrestricted free agency when next out of contract, provided a player can never be an unrestricted free agent until completing at least 10 years’ service at one club.
For example, a player who signs a one-year contract after his eighth season is not eligible for unrestricted free agency until he has completed at least 10 years’ service.
Restricted free agents have the right to move to a club of their choice, subject to the current club’s right of first refusal over their services. That is, if the current club can ‘match’ the offer from a suitor club, the player must stay or enter the draft. The tabled offer includes only football payments and Additional Service Agreements (ASA) amounts

A mate just floated this to me.

Could Mackie be part of the trade? SA boy, recently re-signed for 2 years, which is very rare for us to do for a bloke who is 30. Then we re-sign the previously "definitely retiring" Enright for a year...

Back a few posts I see a Crows fan saying this:

Hmmmmmm.

Absolutely, 100% no.

I can't make this clear enough.

Mackie would have less than no value to us.

Oh my god no.

Is still a potential loop-hole as the rules states Unrestricted Free Agents. If Adelaide has less room to move then he will walk for for the compensation pick.

Problem with trading any of those 3 is that they are all contracted and signed extensions less than 12 months ago

I think the Crows will take the compo and Cats and Crows will do a sidectrade for pick 9 so in the end Crows end up with 3 1st rounders including there own

Adelaide will then go to the draft with Pick 9 , 13 & 14

Geelong will get Danger and what ever the side deal is for pick 9

I think it's fair to say the Crows have let their intentions show it will need to be a trade to Geelong or any club that he is willing to go to, but it will depend on what's on offer, if not he will be in the PSD and Carlton gets kissed on the dick

Being contracted wouldn't stamp them as un-tradeable although it gives them a right of veto, if anything it gives the cats a whip hand to put them on the table in the knowledge they can't walk away from the club, contracted players find themselves at new clubs all the time although it may mean the cats picking up a proportion of their contract to get it done.

edit; i don't think it will a hostile dealing, it will get done in an amicable fashion with both sides saying it was a fair deal.

Read the AFLPA player agreement before you make a further fool of yourself. Frankly you have NFI.

You absolute idiot. Read what you originally posted.

If Dangerfield goes into a draft, the same rules apply to him as to anyone else in that draft. He cannot draft tamper, no one can.

Geelong will only bleed so much and it's stupid to do that when there is already a free, from the AFL, compo pick on the table. Take that for free and work out a side deal to get something else out of the Cats too - they'll easily be ahead if they do that.

Mackay and 50 for Murdoch and 9?

Google "Ken Wood" and "the Age" for why that can't happen.

if they do that then any extension of that contract would need to be at a similar pay rate, two tier contracts for RFAs or in the drafts aren't allowed.

Brisbane have said they will take him in either draft also.

It's just not an option. He's too good to pass up whether he wants to play for you or not.

I agree that's what they should do, pick 14 as compo and trade an average player for pick 9. But I would hope all the other clubs after Adelaides pick would crack the shit and complain about draft tampering.

Does 2 tier mean 2 contracts? Is there a rule that stops him for signing a new contract at a lower amount after he is out of contract again?

Please not Hawthorn, that would be scary if they got him.

Rather Hawthorn with their ageing list than Geelong who will fly straight back past both our teams and Adelaide next season

Geelong culled/retired 5 blokes this year that were cooked except Stevie J

Their rumoured ins will make them potentially top 4 again if they keep everyone fit

Yep, the AFL met with clubs and said that they wont be allowed to pick up players with one short term massive contract followed by a smaller contract extention dowen the track.

eg the Cats cant offer $3.5mil for 2 years and then sign another 3 years at $4-500k later on.

That is good, if it was of our guns I would want his true value paid.

Would love to see a club take a stand against this shit and send someone to the PSD.
I'd be surprised if it got that far in this case, the AFL would strongly suggest they get a deal done. Which is why I don't think Adelaide will get what some people are demanding, I.e. 2 first rounders and someone like Cockatoo.
