You always know someones making a good point when he is like

"Lets pretend these 4 forwards dont exist at all. You then only have"

The fact he had to remove 4 forwards (Darling, Ryan, Cripps, Long) from his list says alot

How many of these will be part of your next premiership?

He used the word immediately... but in spirit of moving the goal posts Id say future forward line is

CHF: Ryan, O.Allen, Brockman
FF: Long, Maric, B.Williams

Maric /Allen/Ryan all interchangable. Williams as forward/2nd ruck. We are invested in Brockman. Ryans got 5 years left. Long is a small forward

Said many times I wouldsnt swap Maric for JVR straight out. Happier with Maric then i would JVR. More natrual footballer

Plus rotate Reid through there now and then to mix it up a bit

clearly I'm referring to key forwards of the future as we were talking about JVR and his position in your 22....

And this is directly referencing pick 1 as we are talking about whether WCE should split pick 1 or not. i.e. depth of 22 etc.

JVR isn't a key forward size, will struggle on the bigger backmen.

He'd want to be the second coming of Jack Darling if you're expecting him to lead the forward line.

Maric's last listed as 196cm, which is the same height as Allen.

There's our 2 key forwards for the next decade sorted right there.

Looks like even Ralph is finally cooling on a trade happening. Guess the 'jungle drums' have stopped beating.

If Melbourne manage to get pick 4 off Gold Coast, I think I prefer we take 4 and 5 to the draft than trade them just for 1.

WCE
Receive: 2 + 4
Lose: 1 + 19

North
Receive: 1 + 19
Lose: 2 + F1

GC
Receive: F1
Lose: 4

Later pick swaps to tidy her up.

North take Reid and back themselves to improve in 2024.
WCE take two stabs at the top 4 including the must have Curtin.
GC trade out of the first round for what will most likely be a top 6 pick. But you never know.

Who says no?

I think that's where heights are misleading. jack watts was 196cm. He had the presence of Nikki Webster. JVR is 193cm and bashes bodies. I haven't seen anything from Maric that suggests he has any presence about him whatsoever. He is a flanker type. He may turn out to be a good player, but it will be as a crafty flanker type.

The offer stands. Pick 1 for Pick 4, 5. Or if we don't get Gold Coast's pick it'll be Pick 5, 15, F1 and maybe a 2nd rounder from grundy.

North says no. Though if GC want to trade 4 for our F1 we'll do that.

Not a flanker type at all. Tackles hard and isn't afraid of throwing his body around.

You must not have watched him much if you think he has a similar presence at Watts. He's also yet to do any kind of pre-season. JVR's done 2.

As for the offer, doubt either of those get it done as it appears WCE are unlikely to trade the pick.

You mean the guy with zero AFL pre seasons and who was working at Safeway 3 months ago is smaller and less physically built then the guy with 2 AFL pre-seasons as a full time footballer?

Amazing find that. We should alert the masses of your discovery

Gold Coast says no.

New coach will want assets he can use now. They want to trade DOWN from pick 4 to get extra points for this years draft. They don't want to trade out of it completely.

North also says no. We're not trading out pick 2 and a future 1st round pick for 1 and 19.

GC will have enough points to cover their academy players, but in the above scenario you’d expect some pick swaps in their favour if they think that becomes an issue.

Seems like a good deal for North if they think they can improve in 2024. Depends how much they want Reid.

They will have about 2500 deficit if they do this. That’s not small change.

I also think this is the most likely outcome and makes more sense from a Melbourne perspective.
Yeah I think so from Melbournes perspective, if Melbourne can get 2 quality midfielders that can be ramping their careers up when Petracca and Oliver are slowing down Melbourne might not have to completely bottom out.

As from West Coast perspective, if Reid is as good as they say, why would you trade it? This could be your only chance to get the next big superstar of the comp. Sure he might get homesick and request a trade in 2 years time, but he might love it in Perth and play his whole career there. If he requests a trade in the future it’ll be disappointing but you’ll deal with it and get compensated, but you gave yourself the chance at having the next big star.

If it was the other way around, Melbourne had pick one and the next big star was from WA I’d be wanting Melbourne to take the kid.

Will be mostly fine once they trade Hollands, Chol and Sharp along with the tedious pick swaps.

No it won’t be. Chol will give them a pick in the 50s, Hollands 20s if they add lucky and Sharp late 3rd rounder and that’s if they get picks in 2023 for them.

Will leave them short.

They will need around 3800-4000 points worth of picks.

Currently hold around 2500 points without considering pick 4.

They will have more than enough by draft day. In the worst case scenario their future first is put back 1-2 spots. Can’t see it being an issue.

At what stage did I mention anything about build?...show me.

I was talking about presence. Jack watts had 10-12 preseasons and never got presence despite being 196cm and putting on size. Sam Weideman is another one.

Yeah I think this is why a trade is looking unlikely. All 3 of North, WC and Melbourne would probably prefer keeping the picks they have.

North and Melbourne aren’t selling the farm for Reid when 2+3 and 4+5 respectively, should get you 2 guns each.. and WC aren’t giving up the pick unless it’s a combination of at least 2 of those picks above.

Seems like all 3 sides would be happy just sitting tight with the picks they have (assuming North get 3 and Melbourne somehow get hold of 4).

If it was the other way around I would prefer to take the skinny kid from Brighton Grammar.

Not even that

You need to UnSpargo your small forwards which is why Watson is the perfect selection and give Petracca someone he can swap in and out with from the midfield which is why Caddy is a good pickup too.

The team who needs 2 players right now is Melbourne whose premiership tilt, if it falters this year will do so because of its poor forward line, something thats easily fixed with 2 top picks
