With the way things are going we are in for one of the most boring trade periods for a while.

Trade radio will likely be insufferable as they try to summarise 200 pages worth of bigfooty content as to why pick 1 should/shouldn’t be traded only for nothing to happen.

Not even that

You need to UnSpargo your small forwards which is why Watson is the perfect selection and give Petracca someone he can swap in and out with from the midfield which is why Caddy is a good pickup too.

The team who needs 2 players right now is Melbourne whose premiership tilt, if it falters this year will do so because of its poor forward line, something thats easily fixed with 2 top picks
Spargo isn’t getting a game anymore. Playing Kozzy Pickett and kade Chandler with 1st round pick Bailey Laurie getting a couple of games the past few weeks and showing flashes, I don’t think a small forward is what we need.

A couple of midfielders first option or a key defender, Curtin or O’Sullivan to build as a Steven May replacement for when he retires in a few years.

No top 5 pick is going to sit in the VFL for 3 years while they wait for Steven May to retire though. He will simply do a JHF and cry til he gets traded. The ability to do something like that is long gone

Melksham was playing but expect Spargo is in this week with Melkshams career likely over :( . I think the best way to improve your forward line is to let Petracca play more time in it which is what a combo of Watson/Caddy would allow. . As far as key defenders, need to be more speculative and get someone later in the draft whose younger and willing to bide his time while he hits the gym

And I’m not expecting the top 5 pick to okay in the VFL for 3 years.

Melbourne usually play 3 tall defenders, May, Lever and Petty. Petty was moved to the forward line and performed well before going down injured for the rest of the year. Most Melbourne fans see him as a key forward from next year onwards. This allowing a top 5 pick key defender to come in as the 3rd defender and grow as an AFL player, and when May retires hopefully there are ready to be the number one defender.

Melbourne are short on Key forwards. I’d expect Tom McDonald to come in for Melksham, Tom was out for 2-3 months with injury but was back in the VFL for 3 weeks and hit good form with 5 goals in the last game.

WCE
Receive: 2 + 4
Lose: 1 + 19

North
Receive: 1 + 19
Lose: 2 + F1

GC
Receive: F1
Lose: 4

Later pick swaps to tidy her up.

North take Reid and back themselves to improve in 2024.
WCE take two stabs at the top 4 including the must have Curtin.
GC trade out of the first round for what will most likely be a top 6 pick. But you never know.

Who says no?
Reid is the must have, so no.

I dont define presence as a thing in sports. Its a made up word

ALl that matters is the stats sheet. The rest is Kane Cornes like attention seeking hyperbole

Well thats just a load of BS.

You dont believe some players have a greater presence and impact on games than others?

I believe commentators describing them as 'players who make others walk taller'.

What if hawthorn gets 6,12 from for 4. Then offers 6,12 2024r1?
Or would west coast prefer 3,29 2024r1.
Perhaps neither of those are acceptable to WC.
I hope we keep 6 and 12 in those circumstances. There will be good players for our rebuild there.

I call that winning more contested possessions which shows as a stat.

If you are talking about capitancy decision making thats another conversation and isn’t something called presence. That is leadership

The narrative this whole tine has been that WCE won't trade pick 1 for a swag of picks unless it nets them Curtin or McKercher.
Yeah but that doesn't make them a 'must have', it makes them a fallback plan if an offer to good to refuse comes through.

Currently, no offer that's too good to refuse has been tabled in this thread(that a club would reasonably propose), or in the media.

I don't agree. I think multiple offers in this thread are well beyond what WC would take (regardless of what supporters think).

The difficulty is that for WC to take any of those offers, they have to actually want who they think they can get at those picks. And we don't know who they actually want.

If I had to bet though,I would just say they play safe and take Reid. I would have said that back when you downgraded pick 2 though. Just in case I needed a reminder of my own ignorance.

That's so deeply flawed. You're basically saying that stats tell you everything about a player. How silly. Like on grand final day, there's a 1 on 1 between Darcy Parish vs Jack Viney. whose your money on? Darcy Parish because he averages more contested possessions? 😀

I would back parish to win more clearances and back viney to actually defend his man.

So I guess it depends what you are betting on?

If it was my team though, I would prefer the midfielder who is accountable both ways. For me, that is always viney.

Viney averages more contested possessions. I’d say it’s a pretty close contest. I hardly think Vineys winning 10 times out of 10 if that’s what your thinking.

How can fans focus more on winning?

We play on Friday night, it would be great if you could let me know beforehand what I can do behind my keyboard to get Carlton over the line.
Send the players some supportive messages, get them fired up, let them know you’re behind them.
