He took 1 contested mark, same as 4 other players.
He had 1 goal assist same as 5 others
He had 5 tackles which is a pretty solid number.
lol no shit it's misleading, just like saying we had only 3 players with less disposals

The goal assist was a scrappy kick off the ground too

I’m sure close relatives post in this forum defending him.

Lol. I knew the idiots would be into this thread.

There’s no way any rational person should have any issue with his game this week.

Competed hard (which is all you guys pretend to ask for?.. except when he does that it’s not enough).

Took some nice grabs when they were there, when he wasn’t in position to take it himself he crashed the packs and made sure no Carlton player did. Almost took a couple of excellent marks that he had no right to get that close to.

Used the ball well and tackled hard and put pressure on.

Todd is on a good run of form right now.

You're taking the piss now. I wouldn't drop him as he is not the worst KPF in the team at the moment, but he has played 1 genuinely good game out of 5. 2 Absolute stinkers, a really good game, and 2 where its hard to make to make an assessment because he is being played out of position. In a choice between Finlayson and Marshall, he wins both up forward and in the ruck, but its an indictment that we can't drop a 0 goal, 10 touch, 1 hitout player, because he's the 2nd best KPF we have.

You can't keep talking up 10 possies and no goals. You just can't.

Yeah, he does some nice things but it's not enough for this point in his career.
Who is saying is Marshall is in AA-form? He was fine, being played out of position in a role he really has no right to be played in.

People are missing the elephant in the room, Marshall is the soft player he is because of Ken, get a real coach who doesn't let him get away with his lazy nonsense and we have a player.

Fair enough.

Seems like hyperbole to balance the comments that are from the other end of the spectrum.
The onlu people that would seek balance (apart from Yoda) are apologists.

Most players form falls either towards the good or bad ends of the spectrum, with few being goodbad.

I mean there are people that obviously don't rate him. I was that way with Bonner, he's winning me over. Everything that he does not do well is remembered and every good thing is discarded. Todd is fine. He can do more, he can do less. He's currently worthy of holding his spot. He has competed physically, which many people were posting was all they wanted.

I said he does some good things but it's not enough at this point in his career. It was pretty considerate. Not sure why you took issue with it and it's certainly not an extreme position. 10 touches and no score doesn't cut it.

Output we have come to expect from Todd - looked like a genuine forward for a 15 minute burst, then gets embarrassed in the ruck by Silvagni, is nowhere to be seen when the match is on the line, and ends up with a pretty standard 10 disposal “did not trouble the scorers” game

I didn't take issue with it. You replied to philthy who was making a general post about Marshall's actual form not being consistent with some of the posts in this thread. I don't agree that his form is good but as I said, I took that as hyperbole (as was the AA-form comment).

He's not even the worst key forward in the team despite also being required to play a role he has no real history in and is not physically built for. I find it really hard to judge any players negatively under the current (and past) coaching panel.

I truly believe Todd could turn into a consistent third tall that pushes up the ground and provides link up play into F50, aka crows Tom Lynch circa 2016/17.

Just needs a new coach and to be played in this role every week.

Stop judging him so harshly atm when we have Crusty the Clown in the coaches box.

We could only dream of him having a career to match Tom Lynch’s - the way he is tracking he is not in the same stratosphere

He's not a second ruck, that much is obvious. He's not really a key forward either.

Third tall is his go, unfortunately he's sort of fringe player at that too. He'd be really handy in side with a good forward setup. But for a first round draft pick, very disappointing.
Is playing third tall anyone's go when there's not a clear first or second present?

I don't know if it's lapses in effort or concentration, but there have been decent stretches in every game this year where Georgiades has looked utterly lost and a mile off the level, playing a far less demanding role than Marshall. You'll excuse me for wondering if Finlayson can really be the answer in this system when he's already been banished to the Magpies once.

Our whole forward system is diabolical. Singling Marshall out is ridiculous. Criticising him for not being a good backup ruck is ridiculous, unless you think he's specifically asking to be played as such.

He doesn't win in the ruck. On his best day, and if you are being kind, he draws even. Statistically there is not a single ruck stat I can see that Marshall is ahead in. Hitout per ruck contest%, Hitout to Adv%, Hitout win%, Clearances.

It is no great surprise to me that Finlayson is not setting the world on fire given he is playing in a new forward line and his own personal circumstances. He certainly needs to kick for goal the way he used to at GWS. Take out Todd's 'Frampton dies in the arse' game the only game where forwards were able to play to their advantage and in which Finlayson didn't play and they are not yards apart.

You get the feeling the story he,ll be telling his grandchildren is "I kicked 5 on Billy frampton"
