The sad truth about John Georgiades, ft Peter Rhode.

Also, not sure which thread, but a few people potted John Georgiades (father of Mitch) as failing due to being soft, or the great KPF hope. He was 189cm, was never built to be anything other than a tall flanker. Had a (somewhat fortuitous) blinder in his first game, but was never going to live up to that again if he'd played for 10 years. He kicked a 5 in his 3rd game, and a 4 in one of his last handful of games, which was probably above average output for his role. He had (a young) Adran Campbell and Phil O'Keeffe as the KPFs for company in game #1, so opposition defences could afford to put time and effort into the shiny new WA recruit at the Bulldogs without worrying about being torched by the alternatives. We lost the next 6 straight, even after Beasley returned for a final hurrah in round 4 and Foster was swung forward, so the attacking focus was then to kick it to the senior players. Think injury took its toll in 1990, and by the end of 91 he was gone back to WA. He only had one bag of 7 in his WAFL career as well, and plenty of goal-less games. He was a solid, rather than outstanding, player, and round 1, 1989 was just one out of the box for his entire career.

Edit: just after the shot above (v Melb for Hawk's 250th), he kicked the goal, and was being manned by none other than master coach, Peter Rohde:

So how long till we can set him up with a good Maria?

Dwayne is interviewing Mitch on his show today. He takes talkback the first hour, so will be on after 12.30pm SA time.

Said he will talk to him about his year with no footy, as Dwayne started talking about this year's Vic draftees not playing footy.
