Lord is definitely the Georgiadis replacement. Sure MG can fly but Lord is 3cm taller and a lot stronger.
2 years ago i would have kept MG for his goal kicking, but he completely lost that last year.

even at 195 he would be the shortest of the tall trio up forward. but what he lacks in height he will make up in strength. dude is going to be strong.
I think he's closer to 5cm taller.

Nah. Ideally in 2-3 years we'd have Lord as the beast forward (replacing Dixon), Marshall pushing further up the ground, with MG as the 3rd tall free to fly.

If he were kicking straight, he'd be a 2-3 goal a game forward at the moment. Marks everything, strong as *. Good at ground level. Find him the hottest, dirtiest 20 year old Adelaidean we can find and lock him down.

Will be an unpopular opinion, but Georgiades leaving (which looks more likely with every passing day) could be a blessing in disguise. The Vic clubs would be waking up to the fact that Lord can play. You can't say to him wait a year or 2 while other clubs will be guaranteeing him game time. Dixon/Marshall/Finlayson/Lord is a good short term stock of KPF with Scully showing early promise as a future prospect for the mid-longer term. 5 AFL standard KPF's is too many so 1 has to come out. It's easy to say Dixon should retire, but we don't know what Georgiades will be like next year. If the guy can't understand why he was playing SANFL while he was one of the worst set shots in the comp for 18 months with 4 other forwards performing right now, then I am not sure he is a guy i'd want to build our future around. Lord might not be as good, but he can definitely do things Georgiades can't and things we will need in 6-18 months time when Dixon is done.

The likelyhood of Georgiades leaving is increasing day by day??? Because he hasn't signed a contract on our timeline? Or based on the opinion of a few journalists with few substantive facts to back them up. Besides, name a player who has left a club in the middle of recuperation from an ACL?

One of the worst set shots for the last eighteen months? He has only played 21 games in the last eighteen months which works out to about 5 months of games. Additionally, in the last third of 2022 he kicked 11 goals from 18 shots at 60%. Probably not one of the worst shots in the competition then. So that's some pretty impressive mathematics.

No doubt I've been impressed by the way Lord goes about the game. His ground level skills are good, he puts his body on the line and can take a mark. Yes he is coming back from a pretty nasty kidney injury. However Georgiades leads Lord in every significant stat over the last season. More marks, more goals per game, more disposals and, yes, a higher GA% by a couple of percent (42%). Not including Georgiades first season as a 19 year old where he was lauded as being a pretty good kick for goal not having had a season in the reserves the year before.

It would be a blessing in disguise if Georgiades leaves? A clear replacement for him? Get a grip.

The only reason for delaying re-signing would be:

a) he's leaving
b) he's trying to up his price
c) he is genuinely thinking long and hard and is weighing the two options.
d) weighing up whether he's likely to force his way back into the side quickly.

He did his ACL and won't play again this year, and did it a month ago. It's not quite clean your locker out stuff now, but to me if he hasn't signed in a month he's gone. He would have been lying in bed thinking with nothing but time to think. We're not going to change our offer now. He's only going to see a forward line functioning without him the longer he waits. WC are going to free up a shit ton of cap space this year/next year. They can offer him 3-4years on good money without blinking.

He has a career average goal accuracy of 47.4% rated as below average, despite being a dead eye in his first 2 years. 23.24 last year hides the 40m set shots that didn't make the distance and the OOF. He kicked 2.5 in the first 2 rounds this year at 22.2% (so 2 more misses). He kicked 3.1 in an SANFL game and then 2.4 with an OOF that might as well have missed his boot against the AA u/18s. If he was putting up those kind of performances in our AFL side right now - we'd be 5-5. It's that kind of crap that has had us outworking opposition teams and going nowhere for years. Wines/Boak would cop stick on here for years and kicking for goal is just about the only thing Georgiades used to do well. 'guarantee me games'. How about kick straight Mitch. If you haven't seen the things Lord does like the half volley pick up GA or the deliberate spoil GA on debut then I can't help you. He's marked absolutely everything that's gone near him. He antagonizes and intimidates. If Georgiades wants to leave because we won't guarantee him a game while he's spray shots all over the place, and with a serious injury over his head, then so be it. Even without Dixon, a Lord/Marshall/Finlayson is a good KPF combo with Scully developing as an 18 year old 6'9 rage monster.

We've shown the world what Lord can do. He won't play in the SANFL for years on end. One of Marshall/Lord/Georgiades will have to go by the end of next year for opportunity. Right now Georgiades is the one with the question mark over him and it's Lord's position to lose.

So who wanted the 1 year contact, us or Lord?
Oddly interesting question isn't it? I mean when you ask if Lord wanted it chances are it was his manager wanting it. A couple of more impressive performances would drive his price up. The we have rich clubs like West Coast turning over their old list over the next few years. And a Tasmanian team coming in.

I would have thought Ollie was close to delist at the end of the season (before he got games due to injuries) but has shown he has something worth keeping.

However, he is a young key forward who has barely had a preseason and short changed due to a kidney injury. Has plenty to work on but the mongrel is excellent.

Perfectly reasonable to give him one year (maybe with a trigger) to let him build fitness and form. I reckon manager, player and club would be happy.

  • break out season this year then gets few games next year, gives him the east option to move
  • break out season and games next year, can renegotiate a higher contract
  • average season and no games, club can delist or renegotiate

I’m perfectly happy with the one year call. Think it’s smart and let’s the club focus on the higher end contracts as the new player salary deal gets finalised.

He looks tall enough on field to have a physical presence in contrast to Tod who is I think taller but doesn’t look it if that makes sense

Ones got a frame that will carry 110kg and the other 95kg.

Ollie should end up looking like this.

No. West Coast need the draft picks we want.
We just can’t deal with them he can walk there for nothing.

It has to be Freo if a WA side.

I think I saw something on Footy Classified and West Coast are interested are supposedly in bringing in WA free agents and trade targets. Given their poor couple of years it makes sense that they want known quantities so they aren't thrashed every week. Guys like Rowan Marshall and Aaron Naughton so they might be on the nibble for Georgiades.

I also kinda get the feeling that he's a West Coast guy but I don't know.

Even though it's very early in his AFL career Lord has definitely shown enough signs to suggest he could be the long term replacement for Dixon as the gorilla forward to compliment the lighter framed types in Marshall, Georgiadis (who I hope remains at Alberton) and Scully, who in my opinion is at least 1, or possibly even 2 seasons away from being a genuine chance of making the grade at that level.

What is a virtual certainty is with his strong family connection to geebung, combined with their need to replace Hawkins in the not too distant future they will come after Ollie at 100 mph, and if he remains on the 1 year contract ending 2024 there has to unfortunately be a strong chance he could be goneski.

The unknown of course is whether we only offered him a 1 year term, or possibly just as likely he and/or his manager only wanted a 1 year term so they had more control over any future options.

  1. Georgiades GA% is 47.45% including ALL shots at goal.
  2. Kicking for goal is just about the only thing Georgiades did well? He averages 4.6 marks and 4.4 SI a game.
  3. Lets not forget either that those stats belong to someone who has played over half of his 49 games as a teenager, and has the athleticism to play almost any position on the ground.
  4. Georgiades 'guarantee me games' said no such thing. The actual quote, which may never have come from Georgiades at all, or may have been paraphrased, or may not even be complete was
""He wants to stay but he wants to play senior footy," Morris told SEN." Wow. How dare he.
There are so many other things in your post which are completely skewed, wildly speculative or dead wrong I'm not even going to bother continuing. Here's to losing the 21 yo Georgiades for the 21 yo, 4 gamer Lord who won't play SANFL for years to come even though Marshall, Dixon and Finlayson should all be available after the bye.

If he wants to stay, he'll stay. If he doesn't then life moves on. It's a position we have depth in. How much money should we be offering him, how many years? Ben Mckay has been a Coleman medalist and is getting roasted right now. 2 Coleman medalists, but can't kick a score.

People on here pot everything about the administration all day. Hinkley, hasn't won a flag, what a no hoper. People potted players like Sam Gray/ Mitchell/ et al who put in, but didn't have elite AFL attributes. But Georgiades gets an excuse for not being able to hit the side of a barn door when goals are in front of him. I'd take that 47% from him, the problem is it hasn't been 47% for ages.
