Test Pick a likely Australian Test team for next summer's series against India

Even though Australia is on a tour of New Zealand, thoughts now turn to next summer's blockbuster Test series against India, and who will be in the Australian team for that series.

Who will open the batting now that David Warner has retired?

What about the middle order, and can Marcus Labuschange hold onto his position in the team?

And would it be possible for Australia to rotate the bowling attack and give up and coming fast bowlers a chance to put their names in front of the selectors, especially considering the fact that England will be coming over for the Ashes series in 2025/26?

So, now is the time to be a selector, and pick a likely 12 for the first Test against India next summer.

Someone would really want to smash it in the shield at the start of next season. Hopefully Bancroft and Webster continue from this season.

1st Test- Optus Stadium, Perth
2nd Test- The Gabba, Brisbane

5th Test- SCG, Sydney

Needs to prove he won't get himself concussed every second innings or take a break when he wants to. He played a good innings last time for Victoria, his challenge is doing it every week and backing it up. He's talented but he's not realistically a chance till Khawaja retires at best.

i've had khawaja pencilled in to finish at the end of the upcoming new zealand series for a while now.

it's now likely he will play the next aussie summer.

if he does this he will be defying the odds becoming the 4th player in the last 45 years or so to play test cricket at the age of 38 (border 38, s.waugh 38, dutchy holland 39 - after debuting at age 38).

Khawaja is a tricky one as he's helped by relatively being a one form specialist, really has only played the odd white ball match his whole career. This keeps him relatively fresh. Yep, you'd think they would continue that. Only slight thing was this summer we saw him throwing his wicket away in the 50-70 range, which is great but 12 months prior he was making 120+. The cliff can come VERY quickly at that age.

That's not really a plus for Bancroft. His body of work is two (maybe three?) failed stints in the Test side and getting busted trying to sandpaper the ball, plus some Shield runs.
