Does anyone else look at Hawthorn and see so much desperation to win that they keep trying to buy good players and not grow them?
Gibson, Guerra, Lake, and now rumours of Mumford and Daisy.

just watch them fall off when Mitchell, Hodge, Lake, Burgoyne, Guerra, Sewell, Osborne and Bailey retire

exactly, but there is a good chance it will reap reward before then.

Its called list management & something we only woke up to last year. Goddard was just about our best player this year. The names you've mentioned for Hawthorn have all performed what they were targeted to do. Hoping you'll simply draft a better full back than Lake or pick up better flanker/mid than Burgoyne is folly. Hawthorn recognise that their opportunity is NOW so they can either say Oh well Shoenmakers isn't good enough I guess will go into finals with another leaky backline OR we can get a very good player even if its only 1-2 years to have the best crack at a flag now. A flag in the hand is worth 10 in the fantasy future.

For this exact reason I absolutely believe we have to look at short term options. Our best chance of actually being a top 4 flag contender is the next 1-2 years. Watson Stanton & Goddard are all towards the end & frankly our midfield can't afford to wait much longer. Is there any reason for anyone to suspect our midfield is going to naturally get to the next level? We know Hepp will continue to rise & Melks had a great year but is hoping that Kav becomes a regular or that someone like Colyer has a break out year likely? Is it good enough to sit back as we have for the last decade with blind faith in Dodoro to deliver the midfield he hasn't yet? I reckon we need to scrape together every penny we can find & make a play for Dal Santo to see out his career. No idea if he's open to it or the price he's want but for mine we still lack class in the middle & he has it in spades. He could have an impact on the side similar to Goddard.

What about Dustin Martin?

I know we will struggle to have the currency to get him, and he is apparantely a loose end, but I reckon he would make our team a lot better.
Watson and BJ as good cop and bad cop respectively and we'd have Dustin Martin sorted... that said, I would not like to see him and Dayle Garlett brought into the same side in the same year. Asking for trouble that at this stage we don't need.

Shag it then, let's get Jack Watts and see how he goes in a decent team
Who has coached the Melbourne forwards? ...and how would Watts go in a forward line coached by, ummm, Matthew Lloyd?

...and does anyone know why we aren't/haven't sought Lloyd as forward line coach? There seems to be constant speculation but nothing happening. **** this. I'm starting a bandwagon thread*

* Hopes bandwagon thread gathers momentum.

"AFL clubs are allowed to contract three players from rival codes or foreign leagues each year as part of a development policy, but this dispensation is now particularly valuable to the Bombers given their draft restrictions."

I don't recall the advantage gained in terms of its effect on our ability to draft though.

Reported today that the Bulldogs have increased they offer to Crameri's Manager. And that Bellchambers may be going to GWS! Said that Essendon want to Trade back into the lower picks in the Draft. IF Crameri wants to go,what do you guys would be a fair pick?

Word was that both had signed and would be announced this week.

Given how important he is to us, perhaps if we coupled him and a later pick we might be able to pilfer their 1st rounder (Pick 4), and IF we can get Pick 1 from GWS in a trade involving Belly then we could end up with not only the best forward available (Boyd) but also one of the best midfielders available (Personally I'd use that pick on Billings or Sheed).

Crameri + a token pick won't get pick 4. Try Crameri for pick 22

So a 3rd or 4th rounder coupled with him wouldn't cut it?

lol no. The only way we get pick 4 is if we land pick 10 for Bellchambers and upgrade that to pick 4, and I'd still prefer to get pick 10 and 22 rather than just pick 4

How would we feel about crameri + our first available pick for pick 22 and Tom Campbell that would allow us to on trade say bellchambers + pears for pick one
