Greenland again the man's demented.
President-elect Donald J. Trump said on Sunday that he intended to nominate Callista Gingrich, who served as his ambassador to the Vatican during his first term, as ambassador to Switzerland.
Ms. Gingrich is the wife of Newt Gingrich, the former House speaker and a loyal Trump ally. At the Republican National Convention this summer, Ms. Gingrich accused President Biden of attacking religious freedom, and she praised Mr. Trump for installing three Supreme Court justices who she said were “committed to protecting our God-given right to worship.”
The selection of Ms. Gingrich came amid a spate of announcements on Sunday that also included the choice of Mauricio Claver-Carone, who served during Mr. Trump’s first term as his senior director for Western Hemisphere affairs, as the State Department’s special envoy for Latin America.
Mr. Trump also picked Ken Howery, one of the founders of PayPal, to be the next ambassador to Denmark. Mr. Howery served as the ambassador to Sweden during Mr. Trump’s first administration.

As part of the announcement of Mr. Howery, Mr. Trump revived the idea, floated during his first term, of buying Greenland, which is an autonomous territory of Denmark.
“For purposes of National Security and Freedom throughout the World, the United States of America feels that the ownership and control of Greenland is an absolute necessity,” he wrote on social media.

Musk is waiting in the wings, which will annoy Vance who stupidly thinks he's next in line to be POTUS.
Think Vance actually has more political rat cunning than Musk. Musk is a guest at the party and can be booted anytime.

On the Greenland and Panama statements, the media should either ignore his ramblings because they're always a cover for something else, or contextualise it, such as:

"Preseident-elect Donald Trump, whose companies are facing tax fraud in Panama, have called on that country to reduce its fees charged to shipping passing through the Panama Canal."

Put the real news up front. Just reporting what he says means you're getting played.

Simply jobs for the boys, payback for helping him get re elected, he must owe a lot of people.
Not many of his appointments look even half capable of carrying out their roles….something is definitely up.

Such a shame the real news are too scared to write such things. Heading into authoritarian territory

I'm not so sure about that. Musk has unlimited funds and has shown he is willing to use his deep pockets to primary any Republican who doesn't do what he says.

As long as he and Trump are aligned, it's his party now. We all know Trump will never use his own money

A defining feature of right wing dictatorships is, the only quality that matters is loyalty.

Competence, integrity, ability are all irrelevant.

And given incompetent talentless grifters can smell which way the wind is blowing, and lick as much arse as required, and competent able people find it hard to bite their tongue and go along with stupidity.

Guess what government ends up looking like.

Might explain why matty pulled out

Think longmire has bolted

But wait
Shortly after Matt Gaetz filed his emergency motion to stop the House Ethics Committee report from being released, the clerk in Federal District Court in Washington posted a note online telling him he had filed it improperly. He was supposed to submit his complaint and his request for a temporary restraining order separately, which he failed to do. “This case will not proceed any further until all errors are satisfied,” the clerk’s note read

Its been released

Wow

LMFAO! Greenland a threat to national security? From whom? Stupid punt just wants it to steal resources.
You get the feeling he actually heard something in a security briefing about all the stuff hidden up in Greenland during the Cold War and it stuck in his noggin somehow.

And then he’ll have the world’s richest person waging all out-war on him for the remainder of his term.
He might, but I’m not sure it will have much effect. For all his billions and his bluster, it’s only taken a month and a half for Musk to show his ignorance of politics/government. And that’s pre-inauguration.

If he just wanted power, he’d stay far more in the background, where his money and connections would enable him to exert a lot of influence to get what he wants - ie even more money and more connections. But he’s showing he wants to be seen to have power, as well as actually having it. He wants to be in the spotlight. And he’ll find there are lots of people with different kinds of power who will push back on that.

And even if Trump denies him the spotlight he seems to want, he still needs Trump to help him with his quest for more money - via tax cuts, government contracts, industry deregulation, access to foreign governments etc.

Yes, thank you for the nuance.

I think it would be by no means clear-cut.

Anyone who is the president of the USA has enormous power.

But so does anyone who is the richest human in history.

Ordering popcorn now…

Nah, I reckon he just saw it on a world map and think it's top 5 biggest countries by land mass and so thinks it's a good deal.

Dotard doesn't understand Mercator projection.
