On Monday, he found a new purpose for his favorite economic tool. Mr. Trump said he would “tariff Denmark at a very high level” if it refused to allow Greenland — a North American island that is an autonomous territory within the Kingdom of Denmark — to become part of the United States.

Posturing. Republicans are lining themselves up to be smashed at the next election. They have no more inexperienced celebs to run the party, no strong candidate, and DeSantis isn't liked outside of Florida.

All Denmark has to do is hold firm for four years, tell Trump to F off, and the next admin will undo it all. But as some have said, its all words from Trump. Most likely to distract from the talk of him backing down on many key election promises already.

What next election?
What fair next election?

Might be bad for the US if they piss off enough EU countries that those countries actually put effort into developing a more robust tax framework for US Tech companies like Meta, Twitter and Google.

Let's hope he backs down on all of them.

Some, like the Greenland and Panama canal annexation are highly unlikely in any case.

It's still mostly a distraction from the coming tax cuts for the rich and massive slashing of services which will come along with it.

The rich will get richer and the poor poorer. Now I just have to figure out how to financially benefit from this myself. The rich have already rewarded themselves with stocks going up. Now how can I benefit from knowing that a lot of Government programs are going to be cut?

This is so falklands revisited. Presumably the tariffs also apply to Greenland itself

Its his way of taking the heat off his tax cuts for the rich which he wants to get sorted ASAP.

Mum and Pa MAGA still believe he is draining the swamp and working for them.

It's the hundred dollars burger strategy.

If you want to sell over priced burgers for $30, put a $100 dollar burger on the menu.

A $30 burger that in itself is priced unreasonably high can be made to seem reasonable by what else is on the menu.

A trick people like real estate agents have been pulling for years.

Create hysteria over these things, then slip other things through that are themselves unreasonable, but look semi Dane in comparison. Avoids a lot of pushback and criticism.

The second Trump gets into office all this will be forgotten except the next 18 holes of golf and the tax cuts for billionaires

Republicans in Congress are already getting to work on trying to implement Donald Trump’s agenda.

Rep. Ralph Norman (R-NC) and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) this week put forward a joint resolution seeking to limit the number of terms members of Congress can serve.

Under the terms of the amendment, U.S. senators would be restricted to two six-year terms and representatives in the U.S. House to three two-year terms.

Whilst a good Idea how about a rule that stops people over say 70 serving as president.
Especially ones convicted of felony's.

The warnings are coming thick and fast.
Worth a watch.

“Mark Zuckerberg has ditched his suit, grown out his Caesar haircut and bought a rapper-style gold chain. He’s said one of his biggest regrets is apologising too much. Because he – like others in Silicon Valley – has read the runes. PayPal’s co-founder Peter Thiel, creeping around in the shadows, ensured his man, JD Vance, got on the presidential ticket. Musk wagered a Silicon Valley-style bet by going all in on Trump. Jeff Bezos, late to the party, jumped on the bandwagon with just days to go, ensuringhis Washington Post didn’t endorse any candidate.”

“ These bros know. They don’t fear journalists any more. Journalists will now learn to fear them. Because this is oligarchy now. This is the fusion of state and commercial power in a ruling elite. It’s not a coincidence that Musk spouts the Kremlin’s talking points and chats to Putin on the phone. The chaos of Russia in the 90s is the template; billions will be made, people will die, crimes will be committed..”

I’ve been a Labor voter all of my 41 years. It’s terrible to see a working class in America vote for something that disadvantages them.
All of you make fun of Trump but you fail to acknowledge how he captured the votes he did - he has some political talent.
How do the Dems claw back? How does the Centre left address right wing social media?
For me, the left needs to look back to some of its great leaders. In American politics I’ve started to idolise LBJ and what he stood for. An LBJ would have dwarfed Trump
