Port Adelaide vs Adelaide

On a slightly more positive note , id seen youg Master play a year or two ago , and I also reckon he should be rookie listed , a real tough country lad and I thought Logan did o'k' , Neade was great early , Frampton will be a good pick up down the track I feel . Really can't see any others standing tall consitantly to put pressure on our Afl regulars , and by God we need it.

Logan Summerton Gray Stewart. Byrne Jones......The rest you could put in a marshmellow tin, particularly the back line..Guys like Frampton Austin etc have to be showing more ..They are AFL listed players who should be very competitive at this level..On a note Oshea and Moore looked really like they were lacking confidence and Neady is not AFL standard because he drops out of a game so dramatically...As I have said before Logan could and should be playing AFL before others

Bit harsh on Austin and Frampton, both tall guys playing their first year. They have both shown some good signs. Frampton is coming off an injury and seems to show some aggression. Austin has a decent build, and from the games I have seen has shown some promise. I don't expect either of them to be up to AFL standard yet. It is extremely rare to see 2 guys taken late in the draft (both KPP/Rucks) who are.

while i agree to a degree (especially about juniors and zones) but 7-2 before today, nearly won a gf last year...... today and a couple of others we have gone into that horrible style which is frustrating overall it hasnt been that bad.
That's true , but many of those games we've won we have only played 1 really good quarter , a quarter were we have NOT played our normal posetion at all costs ring around a rosy , were we actually play Aussie Rules with tall marking forwards , were we actually pick up their on ballers at clearances , throw ups , cheers.

A couple of points that may arise for both teams in the foreseeable future. Once the experienced former AFL and sanfl players retire or move on to more lucrative areas, what experienced quality is left? Magpies minus Summo, Logan etc etc.

While I fully endorse the One Club concept etc, I have serious doubts about the longevity of a genuinely quality side playing for either club - not that I give a rats about the other lot.

The three tall draftees were a mixed bag today, but they all obviously have plenty of time on their side.

Austin was the pick of them, but he was outbodied a couple of times by the Pod, understandable though given the experience, and weight difference.
Frampton did a couple of nice things, and he does have a bit of mongrel in him.
Howard was very quiet, but excuses can probably be made for him given he was only 2nd up after a long break.

For a bloke who is in his 3rd season on the list Clurey was disappointing, he is another who appears lighter than he was last year, plus his once long raking and accurate kick appears to have desserted him this season, and as bad as Jonas has been going he will still probably have to be selected for the game against the swans.

It is hard to judge Harvey on today's effort ( although he still kicked a couple of goals ) because the forward entries were so bad Tony Lockett would have had trouble taking a mark.

PAFC should seek an explanation from the umpires on several of their decisions today.
If only to force a reaction and let the umpires know that people notice.
Butch wrapped up a crow forward in the last Qtr for 5 seconds and NO htb given or ball up
There were plenty of others too. Howlers that follow a pattern is cheating not bad luck
Yeah we didn't play well but got back into the game by 3/4 time.
After that the umpires inserted themselves into the game

Let me pose a question...suppose we had Jonas Pittard Schulz Monfries Moore Achee Mitchell, would we have done any better..We undersell the strength of the SANFL..It is a very strong and willing competition...My thoughts are that we would have won but those named would not be strong performers

When we had the ball the opposition played one type of football, get to us and hassle us out of it. So we played into their hands by putting passes and handpasses onto the ground in our players directions, not passes straight to them. Little rule of physics there, friction causes a reduction in forward velocity, ie if the ball hits the ground it gives them time to catch up. Notwithstanding the fact that these tunnel passes we made were often not very good or were sometimes made in traffic.
In the last quarter when we made our last, desperate shot at victory we were on a few occasions running forward unmolested only for the attack to break down as the defence had an out across the goals. This had been happening quite often in the game so why did Garry Hocking not instruct at least one player to stay away from the contest and run to the goal to cover this. I noted some occasions, in the last quarter at least, where we had a 2 on 1 at the ball but the defender knocked the ball to a free defender in the goalsquare.

I could only see two players who might get an AFL game again. Honestly you would think these guys are playing for their future gave nothing today.

IMO of who played today
  • Butcher gone
  • Redden maybe rookie but I don't think so
  • Sam Gray no from me
  • P Stewart Time thanks for you contribution
  • Clury & O' Shea Young clock is ticking quickly
  • Harvey not imposing and didn't do enough
  • Shaw although he didn't play as above
  • The coaches box as well out trumped easily today.

Duuuuuude seriously. Firstly please learn how to spell players names. Clurey just signed a contract so his time is certainly not ticking, he's developing very nicely.

And Harvey, WTF do you want from a kid that young? The last few weeks his performances have warranted discussion of him being picked at AFL level, which, as a kid his age is quite remarkable.

How do you know the coaches box was out trumped. I'd love to hear where the game day coaches fell down

I get tired of hearing "we lost so gameplay sucks balls"

We won, rejoice!, the gameplan rocks again!

Yes agree there , whilst I despise the League's hirachy , ive watched for years Afl listed ( even experienced ones ) players struggle to come to grips with the physicality of it.

The bottom line ... we cannot handle physicality. The Roosters of '89 couldn't either. It hurts watching Port teams not step up under the heat. We need to be free and allowed to run to win. Generally speaking.

Good points, I forgot to mention in an earlier post the number of handballs that were at the players' feet or even shorter than that, which gave the tingle's extra time to close us down.

The skill level was abysmal too, epitomised by O'Shea dropping a simple chest mark near the outer half forward line when the Maggies were attacking in the 3rd term, he didn't have an opponent in the same post code when he fluffed that one, if he had taken it cleanly there was a very strong chance to set up a score.

Agree re the coaching as well, yesterday was similar to the game against the eagles where they were continually allowed to set up the loose man coming out of defence.

Its our overlap run that makes us look slow out of the back.

Missed a big chance there, with Glenelg puling off an upset over Norwood we could have been third and just one game behind Norwood with a game in hand, one behind the Eagles but no game in hand. Three games away coming up, Norwood at Coopers, Eagles at Hyundai, Sturt at Peter Motley before we play Centrals at Alberton. And I feel it's unlikely we'll have much in the way of ins for next week. Certainly no-one did anything to bang on the door of the AFL team, unless Ken thinks that Jake Neade's 13 touches is sufficient. Personally I think he's done himself a lot of bad with that performance. If he had 16 touches with 4 each quarter Ken would be more impressed with 18 with a total of 5 in 3 quarters.

Maybe he'd been watching Brad Ebert. :(

In many ways...

But on the field , look at their collection of players 23 and under ... Who of them projects to be a good first 22 player? Who projects to be a top player?

Crouch brothers , lever ,

Then it's mainly a bunch of project players at best , although crows fans will tell you they are budding stars but it's guys like Atkins obrien etc

Compare that to ports best young talent 23 and under Polec hombsch impey , ah chee clurey , hoon , wingard wines , Karl amon etc..the list goes on
23 years and under for the Crows? Think you missed a few.
