Says the poster whose team followed wears purple and green!
I miss the old jumper, now we're just dark purple and white which admittedly is quite clean and sleek.

However if another team wanted to whip out a pinstripe purple and white top or another jumper pattern with the same colour scheme. I wouldn't mind at all, sure it's probably ill advised from a marketing perspective for them but that's their prerogative.

the AFL is an 18-team League. each club has its identity.
Yes, and Port Adelaide and their supporters clearly feel that the bars are their identity.

Just like we felt that the wings were our identity which is why a lot of West Coast supporters campaigned for many years to get them back.

Exactly this should be a non issue. We should be able to wear whatever we like as long as we are not calling ourselves magpies.
Port were allowed into the comp on the basis that they would not wear their old black and white jumpers. Now they want to reneg on the deal. Stick to what you agreed on over 20 years ago, or f..k off back to the SANFL. You can wear your old jumper there every week if you like. Simples!

You don't think contracts / deals can't be amended?

Maybe; but not on a “core” issue such as this, particularly when this was one of the non negotiable points that was agreed upon prior to Port being allowed into the AFL.

Sad, but unsurprising; the usual suspects ( not you ) coming out in force. They check which way Eddie is going, then automatically go 180 degrees in the opposite direction, and manufacture their flawed arguments accordingly. Eddie could teach them a thing or 2 about credibility and integrity.

Ofcourse core elements can be amended. Contracts are amended all the time, even big ticket contractual and commercial term. Just this year the players amended their EB to take a pay cut with Covid-19.

You think a club not wanting to wear teal is a core issue?

Please.

This part of the problem with the current AFL climate. Too much is left to outdated tradition and ego getting in the way of what should be a reasonably rational decision.

So if it was a core issue why did the AFL, Collingwood give Port Adelaide permission to wear the Prison Bar in Heritage Rounds

or

Elimination Final 2014 against Richmond.

tbh theyre different enough jumpers that eddie should gagf. i dont see him complaining about norths jumper and theyre much closer.

but i could see a sensible compromise where the top bit is their blue instead of blac. i reckon that might look pretty good and retain their afl heritage alongside their sanfl one.

The bizarre thing about this pathetic squabble is that when Collingwood formed in the 1890's, a suggestion was made at the community meeting by someone who was living in Collingwood or nearby at the time ( and was a South Australian) to use the SA Bird Emblem which was a piping shrike ( magpie) and the colors were black and white.

When the South Australian inter-colonial team played against Victoria in 1891 their emblem was a 'piping shrike' which is a white backed Magpie

But my honest opinion

Who cares.

Home team choose what they wear
Afl tells away teams what they can’t wear

Then away team chooses.

I’m happy for port to wear their prison bars vs Collingwood. As long as it doesn’t clash (so Collingwood can wear their white tops)
