So there cheap bastards that explains why they still have Cameron.
They are cheap because they are an AFL subsidized to the hilt footy club. So they cut back where they have to or where the AFL says so. The AFL wasn't going to allow 2 AFL coaches being paid.

Sam Jacobs has retired.
Veteran ruckman Sam Jacobs has announced his retirement after the conclusion of Greater Western Sydney's disappointing AFL season. The 32-year-old was contracted with the Giants for 2021 but has opted to hang up his boots after 208 AFL games.

Don't blame him after that football display by GWS

What would be the highest a player can earn outside AFL?

So 2 components, football payments + job lined up by club and its sponsors/benefactors.

The state leagues will be hammered by covid for 2 or 3 years but some bush league, probably outside Victoria, might still have some health clubs prepared to spend big on all these AFL payers being delisted / retiring.

Grave Danger, TeeKray, TheFVK and other posters from the west, were any clubs in WA leagues offering silly amounts when the mining boom was full swing either pre GFC or earlier this decade?? Might have been $50k to play footy + $180k to drive a truck in the mines.

So they will only have Mumford's bandaged corpse or an untried Flynn rucking for them next year?

Yep and they expect Mumford to pull the pin. Will be looking for an experienced ruckman.

I guess you can't expect much from something penned by a Woodville man ...
He stole The Marines Hymn but the line in that song is "We are proud to claim the title of United States Marine". Which is not the US Marines claiming that they are the pride of anyone even though they have genuine reason to be. He changed it to "We're the pride of South Australia" because of extreme arrogance and a sense of entitlement.

I've never heard of anything like that (that's not to say it didn't happen), but Subiaco always seemed to be able to attract the best players despite whatever points system the WAFL came up with - they argued that players were attracted to the most successful club, so it's a bit of a chicken or the egg conundrum. A lot of jokes are made about them being paid in whitegoods.

Why GWS played Mumford instead of Jacobs i'll never know. Jacobs far superior.

Mumford sucks but Jacobs sucked all year too. This is like when this board spent 3 years arguing the merit of Moore v Young v Newton and it turned out all three of them were terrible.
