I don’t get it. The contract is AU$X.xx in Y years.Aaaah, well its a stupid ******* system then.
And Daniher is daft to agree to it now. If I was him I'd demand my value. If there is evidence to a contrary agreement they'd have to dob themselves in.
Because the compensation for free agency is calculated based on $/yr, among other things. 750/yr over 3 years = pick 6. 4.75/yr over 5 years = pick 40I don’t get it. The contract is AU$X.xx in Y years.
How the money is divided through the years do not change that. What’s the issue?
But that is total per length.Because the compensation for free agency is calculated based on $/yr, among other things. 750/yr over 3 years = pick 6. 4.75/yr over 5 years = pick 40
But that is total per length.
Say $5mi in 5 years. That’s $1mi per year.
What’s the difference if I get, for instance: $1.5mi, $1.5mi, $1.5mi, $250k, $250k?
There is no problem with that, its also pretty common.
the issue is re-signing mid way threw the free agency contract at a much lower average salary. Reads as if they contract was manipulated to get Essendon a first round compensation pick. That’s draft tampering….
If they offer a 5 year deal straight up and structure it that way it’s fine, but not when they offer a 3 year free agency deal with 90% of the salary that he gets over 5 years and the two year extension comes after he signs. But that is total per length.

P.S.: If there are bonus for achievements and results, they could even be paid only in the last two years as compensation.
They may not have done this, but that the question that’s being asked.
It’s always been moronic for free agency compensation to be based on anything other than total $$.
Another loophole that didn’t need to exist.
True, but he could lock his entire future away and just play for fun. If it doesn't work then so be it, he's loaded.I would be hesitant if I were McDonald. The scrutiny would be hard to endure. See Tom Boyd.
Your mental well being is much more important
Yep, the AFLPA do a great job saying they want to be like US sports without getting the negatives of US sports (traded against will, maximum contracts, public contracts)Honestly the AFL needs to put caps on deal length.
Mostly because the players really are underpaid compared to how much the game earns.Yep, the AFLPA do a great job saying they want to be like US sports without getting the negatives of US sports (traded against will, maximum contracts, public contracts)
