Northern Bullants kicked 4 behinds to Footscrays 161 points in the VFL.
The VFL is a very weird competition, but one of the biggest issues is pokies. Mainly that of the 7 standalone clubs, 3 have pokies - Werribee (1st), Williamstown (7th), Southport (14th) and Port Melbourne (15th). The other 3 make up the bottom 4 - Frankston (18th), Preston (20th) and Coburg (21st). It's a tough issue to fix because the solution obviously isn't for the clubs without pokies to invest in them, but where else can a club that doesn't have AFL backing generate the money to attract talent? And once they have a national reserves comp, it doesn't remain viable to add 7 clubs to the 18-19 that will be in the comp already, but is there an appetite for state league footy when it becomes the third tier and there's no longer the ability to stay within close proximity to AFL recruiters? Will be hard to sort it out in a way that appeases everyone when a lot of these teams are far too strong for a lower league.
