Best case scenario for Collingwood is he misses one final, with the pre finals bye if they win week one they get another week off. There's the 6 weeks.

It's a bit like taking Butters out of our side.
They've got a problem first week of finals.
Melbourne at the MCG they don't win.
At the risk of tempting fate Collingwood are now the side we want in the 1st final.

Melbourne are the best team on paper imo, but I really don't rate the top 4 as anything startling tbh.

The comp is tight because it's weak.

If petty can take 4 inside 50 marks a game and a couple of goals in the next few weeks , the demons should be favourites
Melbourne we’re always my favourite to win, just doing what they need to do, with Oliver back they will push hard, Pies at the G week 1 is my preference, I think they’re gettable.

I’m rationalising our shittness with optimism that we don’t want to show the finals team our true finals game plan in advance 😂

Thinking about how to make footy enjoyable again for those us afflicted with wanting to see our "interstate" teams compete on a level playing field.

Take the comp to 20 teams (Tas + WA3/SA3/NT/ACT whichever makes most sense. Two leagues 10 teams each play each other twice - 18 games. Top 5 in each league play a "Super league" finals series over, say, 6 weeks.

The two 10 team leagues could be the VFL and "The Rest" (I concede it might need a better name). That way, for most of the season we don't have to put up with the crap that's dished out from the league, its officials, its media and its commentators. You could even sell the tv rights to the two minor leagues separately given they appeal to different audiences.

Could you imagine the Vic club’s complaining about the rest conference being weaker and not fair
