Remember that players were different shapes and sizes back then. Almost all players these days are lean and athletic whereas back then not everyone was a run all day athlete. The switch to drafting athletes over footballers really enabled the sort of tactics we see in today's game.
It would also trace to when coaches started having umpteen assistants and more tactical focus, who was in the box with Blight during the camry flags John Reid & Darrel Hart that was about it lol.

Sad for him, but also at least in the long run hopefully he gets to live a long healthy life. More important things than sport sometimes.

Has Pucovski retired yet? I can't believe CA keep letting him come back.

I find the legend status thing a w@nk tbh

If this board had a HoF, you'd be one of the first elevated to Legend (but only because of the wank shed).

Most of em in there seem like no brainers but there's a few I'm not sure about.. KB, Darrel Baldock, Jezza, Royce hart?

Would jezza be in there if it wasn't for JEZAULENKO YOU BEAUTY

The Sturt player who KO'd Royce Hart in the first 5 minutes of the 1969 SANFL GF is no doubt a legend down Unley way.

Yeah he would.

4 premierships.
Jock McHale Medal.
2 All Australian
Carlton Captain.
Coach of 3 clubs.

The Mark part of Australian football folklore.

Builds a solid case overall.

This kind of thing is actually kind of important for the Legend upgrade.

A lot of the talk when they elevated Kennedy Snr, was also his "Just do something" speech.

Nevermind that after said speech at half time, the opposition more than doubled their lead in the second half.

It's also a lot easier to zone in soccer due to pitch size/dimensions + not have to worry about full body contact.

It wasn't until the AFL went legitimately pro and players became athletes as opposed to footy players did zones/structures stop the dominant key forward, and even then it was mid/late 2000's when Fev/Buddy were the last to ton up did it really drop away.

Even at local level press and zone tactics are used effectively by guys that are part timers

Still crazy imo

Royce Hart could not possibly be more of a boxers name.

You definitely have extremely fit athletes but they can’t kick to save there lives.
What’s made the game faster is everyone is allowed to throw the ball.

Seen Royce Hart play in a state match at Adelaide oval against SA.
Played CHF kicked something like 5 goals and everyone was straight over the goal umpires head.
Right up there with the best at kicking for goals.
Seen Jezza kick 10 against SA in another state match at AO.
Amazing footballer for his size.

So why isn’t John Cahill a legend?

4x Premierships
4x BnFs
Port captian
All Australian
10x Premierships as coach

Inaugural Port AFL coach, Port BnF named after him….

(Jock McHale Medal only really means something in the AFL era, otherwise Cahill should have 10 of them)
