Still think GC should've been called the Ironmen. Lean into that Life Saver/Ironman culture. I mean they literally wear the generic life saving colours.
They are on the pacific coast.
PIRATES!

I do find in comical that the afl now have this exponentially increasing penalty system, purely to help them justify the inadequate clarkson punishment.
He could have punched someone in the back of the head 5 times for that!

They really need an MRO style framework for this. I’m cynical Jordan De Goey would get 5 weeks in round 24.

is it possible the umpires are mishearing 'maggot'?
Not from Wil Powell's own statements on the matter.

I'm cynical that it would get anything unless clearly heard on the broadcast.

And that the AFL would actually roll out the above "excuse".

There's a douche bag at work who keeps referring to the club as "Port Power" when mentioning some of port's community stuff that we are involved with. I hate it. I am correct that "Port Power" is not a thing any more aren't I?
Well it wasn't until they leaned back into it with the retro range.

Yes, you are correct that he is a douche bag.

why do you hate what we are

Is it just me, or has the media been very quiet on the Powell thing?
Finlayson was character assassinated for days/weeks... every article or fb post on Powell has comments disabled.

Earlier today it was "Finlayson" trending on X and not Powell, and a News Corpse article had about this case had Finny's picture and not Powell's.

The official Port Power nickname was dropped before the 2001 season. Some retro merch doesn't change that, ie. A retro range of Brisbane Bears gear doesn't make them the bears again.

So ultimately we were Port Power for 4 years of our 28 as Power at AFL level and still people call us that.

End of the day though, there's 1. the Port Power people say when they mistakenly think that's an official name, there's 2. the Port Power they say when trolling and then there's 3. the Port Power they say just like Port Magpies when they're just shortening our name. So as long as the context relates to the latter 2 it's probably fine, if they're a nuffie though then it's be highlighted by the fact they don't understand point 1.

In general though Crows nuffies just like to say Port Power as if by saying that, it means it isn't the Port Adelaide Football Club that is in the AFL. Despite the fact they hate us because we're the PAFC, they hate us because of the history of the PAFC, they hate the PAFC because of the '90 SANFL split, etc. Yet we aren't the PAFC, because we're Port Power. Meet one of these idiots and you're better off talking to a brick wall, because they don't want to talk in facts, they just want to propagate their own myth that helps them sleep at night about their own clubs lack of history.

My response is usually "What are you, a hundred? That logo lasted 3 years". I usually just get a blank look back.

Yeah true. Wilbur’s shoulder was literally hanging by a thread in 2004 too, and Roger James probably would’ve been subbed out today with concussion in the first bounce of the prelim he kept us in single handedly.

I think we forget how good James was. He was a beast in a certain part of his career when Voss was at his peak. I don't know if anybody remembered when he had 30+ disposals against the Lion s at the Gabba. I think we won that match in a cliffhanger

This is tough.

Are you judging by only Port games? If so, that might knock Wanganeen back a bit in my mind (still a bloody good player).

I have Grey, Tredrea, Chad Cornes, Wanganeen and for shear heart Matthew Primus (how many players directly result in a rule change?)

honourable mentions to Wilson, Boak (PAFC AFL games record holder) and Shaun Burgoyne.
Wanganeen was amazing because he was so good in so many positions. He was a great defender, tagger, outside mid, forward. Rarely beaten in his position, and was our first Mr.-Fixit who didn't suffer because he had to play so many roles. Kicked that goal on the wing that sent us to the grand final as well. He was a champion... :)
