Kicking straight is scary.
If they can’t kick straight by now nobody can change that.
All that can be done is drop them.

Who you replace them with is another matter
The idea of replacing a coach will somehow make players like Dixon kick straight is ludicrous.
As he’s got older his kicking has deteriorated but you have others in the team that never had been good when it comes to goal kicking.
You can go back 15-20 years and there’s important games we have lost because of poor goal kicking.
It’s been around longer than dirt.

I think we know Tredrea had kicking issues.

Then in 2004 he kicked 75%.

Then some more issues, but then in 09/10 he was very accurate again before retirement.

It's never too late to fix kicking, especially when it's most in head.

... Back to Tredders though I think the seasons he had issues it was more technique.

He definitely tweaked his technique under Ben Perkins, but much of his set shot accuracy issues stemmed from the fact he’d often just covered more ground than a blue-arsed fly prior to the attempt and was gassed.

His field kicking and shots for goal on the run in open play were deadeye.

Assuming I'm reading this right, this says we have not lost a single 1v1 contest all year
  • Def 1v1: Defensive one-on-one contests
  • Loss %: Percentage of defensive one-on-one contests lost
Impressive over 3 rounds of footy. AFL average is 25%

But we lost because the players aren't good enough and didn't work hardery for longery enough apparently.

It’s a bit of a dodgy stat. I’d rather Burton / Jones lose a 1v1 instead of not competing / leaving their man to do something stupid

Yeah, it is a nice improvement from being the worst defensive 1v1 team last year though.

You gotta take the small wins when you get them. Credit to our tall defenders so far.

It's too late when you're Dixon.

The 17' Swans came off a GF they went in as favourites. They'd played years of finals showing a body of work which showed they were only a little off their best.

Crows haven't played finals for 7 years and won a wooden spoon in between. After 4 years Nicks is not getting this team to perform.

Nicks is evolving into a Hinkley before our very eyes
The year is 2040, David Koch has called a press conference to announce the replacement of Ken Hinkley, who passed away vigorously celebrating a round 20 win against St Kilda to lock in 11th spot. He announces Nicks as senior coach on a 13 year contract. Stability
