This will make us feel more confident about evening up the competition ...

Remember when the AFL wanted to make teams pay a fair price at this year's draft and the clubs/media jumped up and down and said 'you can't do that, we've put years of planning into rorting this system and capitalising on the opportunity to get an unfair advantage!' and the AFL said 'yes you're right, continue rorting'.

If there's another Sydney Brisbane GF in the near future you won't have to worry about the AFL changing the rules...

Remember when there was a big issue with Geelong paying a fair price for Tom Hawkins, Gary Ablett, Matthew Scarlett?

No?

The father son rule has no place in a professional sport. Time to scrap it and maintain some integrity in the draft. It’s hard enough rebuilding as it is

The problem isn't the father son rule, the problem is the fact that teams aren't required to pay a fair price.

You’re never going to get a fair price with a highly flawed points system.

If we want to keep keep the rule because some people see nepotism as “romantic”, then sure make them pony up more picks to get closer to the fair value.

But really, if we are a serious sport, we should be scrapping it.

The problem is different rules for different states. NSW and QLD having academies, Victoria providing the glut of juniors whilst SA and WA wither away with minimal help.

The AFL and broadcaster Channel Seven are preparing for some of the highest grand final ratings ever for next Saturday’s decider between Sydney and Brisbane.
Swans grand finals have regularly led to significant bumps in viewership for the marquee game, with the addition of the non-AFL heartland NSW market corresponding with enormous ratings – 4.12 million watched their 2016 grand final loss to the Western Bulldogs.
The Lions have a similar, but not as pronounced, effect, with 3.4 million Australians tuning in for their thrilling grand final loss to Collingwood 12 months ago.
“I think it’s amazing [to have a Sydney-Brisbane grand final] because we’ve got two Victorian teams represented in South Melbourne and Fitzroy, and we’ve got Sydney and Brisbane represented, so there’s a little something in it for everyone,” Seven West Media’s director of sport Chris Jones told the Sydney Morning Herald. “Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth, historically, will watch the grand final, regardless of who’s playing. NSW and Queensland are very much our growth markets, and we’ve seen fantastic results there this year.”

However, the bumper forecast hasn’t stopped Jones from firing a shot at the traditional grand final start time of 2:30pm (AEST). “Imagine how good it would be if it was in prime time, which clearly is the preference?” he said.
Broadcasters have long lobbied the AFL to move the grand final from its Saturday afternoon timeslot to twilight or night, with the 2020 and 2021 deciders evening matches with the COVID-19 pandemic forcing them to be played at the Gabba and Optus Stadium respectively, rather than the MCG.

I’m confused two Victorian teams and a team from Brisbane and Sydney, what the hell is it?

But we get slammed for recognising our Magpies history or wanting to wear our jumper.

Jeezus Christ he's like a combination of Hinkley, Davies & Koch
