A multi-year deal for Jack Darling. Wow.

My favourite Cometti-ism was in Westhoff's first season. Dennis said that he was so skinny we could fax him to away games 😁.
On Melbourne midfielder Adam Yze: Remember the name: Y-Z-E – terrific young player, bad Scrabble hand.

On the work of Bulldogs star Tony Liberatore as he burrowed into a pack: Liberatore went into that last pack optimistically and came out misty optically.

On former Melbourne, Sydney and Collingwood ruckman Darren Jolly: Jolly gets it to Green. Where’s the giant?

On a Carlton champion: There’s Koutoufides – more vowels than possessions today.

Closely assessing the team list in his Football Record: Barlow to Bateman...The Hawks are attacking alphabetically.

On the cliches of sport: So it’s back to the old drawing board. Obviously a luxury that the guy who invented the drawing board didn’t have – Cometti on the struggles of coaches.

On Brisbane midfiedler Simon Black: He’s like Diogenes or O.J. Simpson – he’s always searching.

On an errant shot at goal by former Richmond star Darren Gasper: Ahh, Gasper the unfriendly post.

Upon seeing Port Adelaide’s Josh Carr approached by a tackler: Carr – covered by a third party.

it's a good reminder that Fremantle has the worst collection of 100 game players in the AFL

You’ve just nailed their entire identity.

Some more: Jason Norrish, James Walker, Matt De Boer, Daniel Bandy, Nick Suban.

Antoni Grover, Shaun McManus and Shane Parker even managed to play 200+.

Hot take: big, multi-year deals for Darling and Parker is good business by the Roos. Means they're not over-paying their young guns before their prime and brings in experience and leadership.

Didnt know where to post. But am genuinely hoping Port win the flag this year.

Love the makeup of your list, some nicely scattered vets (Wines & Boak) among youth (Burgoyne, JHF , Logan Evans) and core players (Butters, Rozee, Georgiadies) . Envious of your list!

Well done on the win the other night. As a neutral it was great to see the hawks taken down a peg or two. Good on Hinkley for giving an old school approach to the situation. Did admire his leadership group or older heads standing behind/with him through that. Shows the respect they have for him.

For god’s sake, if they’re going to drag someone out of retirement, at least make it Cometti.
He's in a hosting role
Not commentating.

Although he'd still be superior to 90% of the current mob of (and I use this terminology in both a derogatory and a sarcastic sense) commentators!

What's multiyear though? Could be 2, could be 10.
Knowing North they got desperate and offered way too many.

Later reports saying 2 years

It's shit business, they're cooked. North had a bunch of similarly cooked players before Scott blew up the list and put them in the current situation they are now.

At least they didn't offer chungus Dixon a contract I spose

The very fact that an AFL broadcaster is considering bringing back a 70 year old man who is breavely fighting a terminal disease says all you need to know about the quality of AFL TV broadcasting at the current time.

And my comment is not meant in any way as a derogatory comment about Bruce. He's a Woody High champion who has earned my respect for what he has achieved in the sport at the national level through sheer hard work. But his time is over.

It's a comment aimed at the heart of the AFL boys club who have rewarded old footy mates in Melbourne with lazy habits rather than fostering new talent who do their homework on a national game that all of us want to listen to.

Edit: Speaking of Bruce - here's a picture of him in the 1971 Woodville u19s team (not hard to spot - he's in the 2nd row 3rd from right). And Craig Bradley is the mascot btw - his dad Lionel was the coach. Photo credit to John Montague from the Woodville Facebook Group.
