Port given permission to wear the stripes

****ing shameful.

John James to quit his job as Port CEO and to move to the AFL commission in two weeks. Its the only thing that could explain this truly pathetic deal even being considered.

Kudos for saying how you feel as there are Port supporters that are treating it like a win, but I dont think they have realised that Port have simply agreed to Eddie's stipulations that he said that Collingwood will let Port wear it this year and then only at home heritage games provided they arent playing Collingwood.

Many Port supporters only saw the 6pm news report which just painted everything as ****ing rosy.

"The agreement also guarantees that the club will receive an equitable spread of games at AAMI Stadium in Heritage Rounds."

Better not be more than 2 away in a row, or there will be some more sparks.

$10 says we play Collinwood next year at AAMI stadium in heritage round.

and here boys and girls, is the the killer blow to us.

"Port Adelaide has also agreed that it will not commercially manufacture their black and white heritage guernsey." at the request of collingwood.

this is an absolute joke, the amount of money which is going to be lost as a result of this ridiculous ruling is unbelievable.

The Port Adelaide Screw Job.

It's called restraint of trade.

Jesus wept, some Port supporters are never happy.

You've got your jumper, STFU!

Why should you try to deny Collingwood the right to wear their black and white in heratige round? They were in the AFL well before Port, so should have first dibs on the B&W strip if the two clubs should ever meet in a heratige round.

The fact that they had to resort to not being able to proft from it should have killed the deal IMO, I cant believe they signed off on it.

Yes it is a joke we cant profit from this, but atleast it shows we value our heritage more than bringing in some $$$$$.

Heritage round really has run its race though, should be scrapped.

And to the guy who said there is no link to the Port prior AFL to the Port in the AFL, what a knob. Port Adelaide Football Club won the license to play in the AFL, just changed logo and added a new colour, you obviously dont know much about what happens in your little square.

I personally don't care about the licensing aspect, for me it was always about the principle rather than the money...
And wearing in only in Adelaide is OK by me, I feel a little sorry for Port supporters elsewhere in Australia but we can wear it at home where 97% of our supporters base is...
And an equitable proportion of home games (I take that means half) is ok by me...
The only sticking point that IMO should have been added is that Port should never play Collingwood in Adelaide...

The AFL has acknowledged our history, so all BF posters (esp Crows fans)can stop the constant whining about est 1996 and all that... est 1870 and proud of it.

On the plus side the PAMFC coffers are going to swell in coming years with the sales of their Port Magpie Guernseys increasing :) :)

Being the dominant club in the SANFL prior to the move into the AFL I assume that in AFL away heritage rounds we can wear the SA state jumper.

The acknowledgement of our heritage is important, as much so as the actual jumper. :thumbsu:

The Port maggies will do well in jumper sales :thumbsu:

I doubt the club will be too concerned about the marketing, the money now goes 100% to the Port maggies rather than to the PAFC then divided amongst the SANFL clubs. The other SANFL clubs are the losers here.

I note that the black area on the jumper we wore last weekend wasnt the "predominant " part of the jumper. Does this mean that next year we can wear the Richmond jumper as our away jumper, but with black and whites stripes in that non-predominant part? Would look a lot like our logo then :thumbsu:

For the life of me I cannot understand why Collingwood has anything to do with what Port wear.

Good news Port get to wear it - absolute bullshit they have to put up with compromises because of Collingwood's insecurities.
For the one hundred millionth time because there was an agreement on Port’s entry – and Eddie was not even president believe it or not!

I wonder what are the odds of Collingwood playing Port Adelaide at the G' next year in Heritage Round
Doubtful given the bigger drawing alternatives but it would be a great boost for the rivalry and it would get Williams back onto his high horse. For some reason he has been very sedate of late. Actually a Power v Pies clash at AAMI with the Pies in the black and white stripes would be a ripper! Wouldn’t that drain a million gallons of spit from the population of SA!

Weird thing about this that none of the Port journos (read: Rucci) and members here don't seem to understand.

Port Adelaide FC don't want to be associated with only Black & White stripes.
Why else have a website called planetteal.com.au?

They have very clearly distanced themselves from the Port Magpies of the SANFL. That's not to say that when it suits them, Heritage Round, that they can't wear their old colours, but they have very clearly shown the footy world that they are identifying themselves as Teal, Black, White & Silver.

People seem to be standing up for the right to be something that Port don't care to be.

what about the 3 years finishing higher agreement? so what!
What agreement? No agreement was ever reached on that. Not sure why you’d even bring up the alleged ramblings of a mad man allegedly offering something he had no power to offer. You keep saying you don’t want the black and white stripes because you are more than happy with the Power incarnation of the club and its jumper(s).

Don’t your eyes get sore from rolling all the time though?

Nahhhh...it doesnt work that way champ...that's taking the piss.

Eddie said he might compromise if u lot werent greedy....he did compromise but dont assume it cant change.

Port Power are still etched in teal ..established 1996....nothing has changed other than they let u wear a jumper once a yr to stop u from the incessant whinging and the ridiculous need for some form of cultural heritage beyond the boundaries of the original agreement.

Collingwood were always and will remain the only magpies in the AFL...with the only recognised Black and White colours.

I think pages like this one refute your claim Mero.

http://portadelaidefc.com.au/TheClub/History/HonourRoll/tabid/7946/Default.aspx

The club has identified that the teal does attract the interest of young football supporters and hence the planetteal and other initiatives aimed at the youth market.

I wouldnt confuse marketing with heritage (although the 2 seem to be the same when talking about AFL heritage rounds ;) ).

Please never refer to Sydney as the Bloods or South Melbourne if this is the case.

Your attitude is way too aloof for the representation of a club that has won one premiership since the introduction of television.
I have read that and re read it and I still can’t for the life of me work out the connection between his post, being aloof and the number of premierships in an arbitrary period. Ot was a good post and because you had no counter you came up with that tripe.
See you in the finals.
You’ll be joining us this year? Look forward to it as usual. Your place or ours?

I think your use of words may be slightly misleading, but in essence you are correct.

I'm relatively confident that if the AFL came to port tomorrow and said they could wear prison bars full time in AFL (black and white) that the club would jump at the chance ... however this is never going to happen so the club has made the decision to move forward on their AFL journey with their adopted colours

'dont want' and 'accept they cannot' are two seperate things.

Because that possibility is not there, the club cannot afford to get as emotionally caught up as supporters, as they are also accountable for the day to day running of the club and long term viability - they have now come to an arrangement that lets them remember their past (admittedly only every second year), but they now have that locked away and continue to focus on the journey forward.

What planet are you on? What deal being considered? It was a take it or leave it concession.

You just dont get it do u...u joined the AFL...its an extension of the VFL which was the strongest league in the land.

Any concessions offered to Port Power have been out of the goodness of the AFL and Collingwoods heart.

You dont get to turn up as johnny come lately and expect to tell the existing clubs whats gonna happen champ :thumbsu:

Port Power have agreements with the AFL...dont get dumb and greedy or they'll just replace u with someone else that doesnt whinge so much :D
