Concussion doesn't make you cough blood. The concern would be broken ribs and a lung injury.

Yea saw this mentioned. Are we just over calling that? Initially I was ready for blood but on second take it seemed fairly innocuous.

This is actually the mindset of the coaches. They thought that by adding Ryder and Dixon you can get away with that.

Turns out in reality, you still need structures for a forward line to function.

Nicks seems bereft of ideas up forward. The lack of cohesion between Voss's mids and Nicks' forwards is a worry.

I miss not seeing Chad fly for marks any more. I miss players not having shots at goal from 30 out on the boundary. What was Young possibly thinking with that last set shot?

This is pissing me off to no end. It's clearly an instruction. Lollipop kicks to the centre rarely get marked.

Either kick it low at direct to a team mate or just take the bloody shot.

Have a good look over that Hawthorn list. Which of that team is AA this year? Which of that team would make you best of the AFL 22?

Rioli? Smith? Frawley? Gibson?

This will sound stupid considering they just pumped us, but surely this is one of the weakest Hawks' sides in a while. They have very few stand out players. Yet they all do their jobs and function as a team. Sicily plays with the confidence and arrogance of a 100+ games as does Hartung. Why is that the case and yet Clurey, O'Shea, Neade, Amon, etc still seem off the pace? Have we sacrificed quality in our depth for a few good players like Dixon and Ryder? They cost us big money and two first and second round draft picks.

Simple really.. can't beat a side like Hawks with blokes like Clurey, Amon, Mitchell, Impey, Austin .. surprised we got as close as we did.

I actually thought Impey wasn't too bad. Took the game on. Amon, Clurey and Austin all settled as the game went on but were all soundly beaten by their opponents.

It's the reason why Butcher had to play, to stop Gibson from doing that. When he has an opponent he is far less damaging.

The difference is their leaders stand up. Mitchell, Hodge and Lewis directing traffic with Gunston up front. We seem to be missing that. Jackson was good when he could direct from the backline but he's to busy trying to ruck. We seem devoid of onfield leadership.

28 free kicks to 30? I find that very difficult to believe. Even if it is right a lot of the free kicks Hawthorn got were right in front of goal or were unearned from us spoiling them. When a ball was kicked to a Hawthorn player the umpire seemed to make his decision that if he was spoilt it would be a free kick, and he made this decision before the ball even got there.
It may have helped if we had lost by 8 goals and then the umpires would not have come into it. There were at least two I can remember; one was when Gibson was grabbed after trying to escape with the ball and dropped it. That was right in front of our goal but was not paid. And one where Gunston grabbed Clurey (or O'Shea) around the neck immediately he grabbed the ball. That one was at the least a ball up as he was grabbed with no prior opportunity and made a valid attempt to dispose of the ball and it resulted in a goal to Hawthorn.
The quarter where they won it was the third but they had only extended their half time lead to 13 points when the ball was kicked to Boak who was about to mark but, as BornPort with superb sarcasm said, Hodge put his knee up to protect himself.
Steve McBurney's comments on the radio at mid-week look to have been listened to by Port, as they only had 55 tackles. Umpires should butt out and we might get proper games instead of the basketball we saw tonight.
