Game Day Port v Fremantle Round 23

IMO we are not quite there, 5th is about right, we need one more pre season and a couple KPFs but in saying that our second and third quarters were not of the quality of a top four side. We have to many players atm that are not in the game for long enough periods.

We are very certainly top4.

But. Add a Ruck and more experience and we are top 3 or 2.

How can we not be? How were we top?

How did we come 5th last year?

You are accepting mediocrity

If we won we were 4th.

On what planet are we not top 4 standard?
Bloody oath, boydy.
We shouldn't accept finishing fifth after what we produced in the first half of the year. But we're not out of it yet.
First up, focus on a big effort next week.

You have to be super optimistic on this board or you'll get in trouble.

I'm predicting a 100 point win next week.

We are top 4 standard at our best, look where we've come from in 2012! You can't expect us to perform at the level of Geelong, Hawthorn, Freo and Sydney, or even the Kangaroos and Essendon; who've been growing and building a strong, deep list for the past 4-5 years. We need to get minutes into our 20-23 year olds so we can develop our own dynasty for the next 5+ seasons.

Yes, i'm proud of the effort and how far we've come, but this season is rapidly heading towards missed opportunity territory.

We've lost close games we should have won because we've failed to execute, and we've ended up a game out of the top 4. I'm sorry but I know these guys are capable of kicking goals from 25 metres out in space. But they stuff it up, and their stuff ups have ended up costing us several games and a top 4 position with them.

This isn't a fairytale come from behind sports story. We aren't the Jamaican bobsled team. We were 2 games clear on top and our poor structure and skill errors cost us a home QF, let alone the double chance. You don't win premierships from 5th. We wasted a good opportunity to do a 2008 Hawthorn here.

One of the best posts in this thread.
We hear from our eternally chest-beating, optimistic, bravadoish supporters that it should be anywhere, anytime and that we shouldn't cater to the opposition, because we're Port Adelaide and we're the best. And those posts get lots of likes.
And then you lose a crucial match that you led by 12 points early in the third, and the conclusion from the same people is that we're young and not quite top 4 yet.
Go figure. "Anywhere, anytime", but when the time comes and the pressure's on for a winner takes all result, and we don't win, it's she'll be right mate, and how dare everyone be critical of such a gutsy effort.

Unbelievable isnt it...

We will get these long winded martin luther king speaches from posters who cop 80 likes...

Then the same posters say stuff like honourable loss is great...we are not top 4...we are not ready..

Out come the ****ing Pittard haters. Only when he plays badly do they mention him. No credit for the 8 weeks (apart from one game) of good football that he played prior to today.

I'm sorry but how can anyone say this was a wasted year? We finish the H&A rounds higher than we finished last year, we have nearly full squad to choose from, a home final next week (in which I expect another attendance record to be set) and we support the best ****in club in the competition.

We are showing a never give up attitude win or lose that wasn't there two years ago and we have the talent to take us to a GF, maybe not this year but sooner rather than later.

Did anyone here realistically expect us to be playing in a GF this year? It's not out of the question yet, someone will win it from lower than fourth someday and it may well be us but I'm not going to bet the farm on it just yet. That said, as Kern said "Set no limits".

We're fortunate that we played the top 3 teams at home. We have shown that we lack the consistency all year around, and to be able to match it with the best for FOUR quarters. Good sides like Fremantle (AT HOME) are hard to beat. I mean they did beat the Hawks. So are the Hawks shit??? We are getting close to teams this year. In fact 26 points I think was our greatest losing margin. But to start winning those games means, taking it up another level. Our best is still not our potential best. We're still on the up. We still need new players to the club. You're kidding yourself if you think we have the perfect team. There are obvious holes, that can be fixed in the coming years.

come on man, 2012, really, its a totally different side and a totally different club in so many ways. accept we have wasted opportunities to take the next step.

I dreamed of winning the GF like every year. But I think i made a mental note that I wanted to improve on last year. I wanted 13+ wins, possibly get a home final. And thats what we're getting. I'm not sure I even realistically thought we could get top 4.

Excuses of age or experience betray the ability we actually have

Noble defeats don't win Premierships

Have to agree - time to harden up, face reality, then address the issues - to get better and better.
We WILL get to where we want to - just not yet, but it's coming.
We must not stagnate though and expect it to happen - good teams MAKE good things happen, not wait for them to.

I just got home from the game and **** me... Bobby is the laziest campaigner going around sometimes.

Also, could someone tell me who was standing Mundy in the middle?

I almost jumped the fence and threw one at Sutcliffe the dirty little campaigner after throwing one at Neade.

I'll post a couple of photos soon as well.

**** I'm pissed, we should have won that.

Gray's goalkicking has been overlooked this year. As for Hoff, christ he's permanently got the yips.

A lot of our field kicking was off today too, too high, too long, too much air, half-volleys.

I think a certain proportion of supporters (the realists) would acknowledge his and Westhoffs goal kicking has been very ordinary. If he kicks those goals he'd be the best player in the league and we finish 4th. But it's time other players gave him more of a hand.

yeah im aware but wasnt that collingwoods only win in the last 2 months, they are ordinary. lets not be precious, we blew a golden opportunity this year.
I agree that they're mediocre and we should've beaten them, but the last 2 weeks they've had significant injuries. Pendlebury, Beams and Cloke would've got them over the Brions, and the GWS result wouldn't have been that close with those players too.

Be positive, we're young and volatile and we have our faults, I understand the anger of passing up the opportunities presented by the 2014 season, but think of the opportunities of our future; this season and the 5+ years to come.

**** me, where do you live? Wembley? I'm still stuck getting onto Thomas Rd!

Lets wait and see if we finish higher than last year post finals. If we go out first week then we've regressed plain and simple.
Lose week 1 - Lower finish then last year, not an improvement when it really matters.
Lose week 2 - Par
Win week 2 - Improved
