CARLTON will host Hawthorn in a practice match next Thursday at Ikon Park.
Kicking off from 4pm on Thursday 21 February, the Blues and Hawks will get their seasons off a week early prior to the JLT Community Series.

The match will be free entry for fans, with the front entrance and Gate 6 to be open from 3pm. Limited public parking will be available on the Northern Lawn of Princes Park from 2:30pm.

Need another update from Russell, but this would be my team:

B: Plowman Jones Simpson
HB: Newman Weitering O'Brien
C: Walsh Kennedy Murphy
HF: McGovern C. Curnow Petrevski-Seton
F: Polson McKay Garlett
R: Lobbe Dow E. Curnow
Bench (from): Setterfield*, J. Silvagni, Thomas, Stocker, TDK, Kerr, Casboult, Phillips, B. Silvagni, Schumacher, Goddard

*Assuming Setterfield is ready for a quarter or two of action.

Unavailable:

- AFLX: Cripps and Fisher
- Injury: Kreuzer, Docherty, Lang, Marchbank, Macreadie, Williamson, Fasolo, Pickett
- I wouldn't bother suiting them up: O'Dwyer, Owies, LeBois
- Debate on whether AFL has ticked it off: Gibbons, Cottrell

Will be a tad early for Jones and probably Plowman, Schumacher been in rehab group. If we are considering those in line for early selection would be
surprised to see Ben. Thinking LeBois will get a trial run. Lock at least Gibbons in, Cottrell may get some game time depending on rotation arrangements.

You think Jones will be fit to play, but Marchbank, Macreadie and Williamson won't? Tough call.

Haven't checked out the exact date Jones injured his hand. It'd be close to 6 weeks by now, right? Aaaaaaaaaaand it'd be 5 weeks by the 21st, so probably no Jones.

Marchbank and Macreadie have been restricted to jogging laps, not a good sign re availability.

All I know about Williamson is that he is alive.

Indeed, Jones will very likely miss. Plowman would have close to 2 weeks of match sim under his belt by then, that should be enough for a quarter or two. Schumacher I don't know much about, your call.

If we are playing an extended bench I'd give BSOS a run, Hawthorn's tall forwards aren't much chop + many of our players will be unavailable.

I agree that LeBois will play, although I'd prefer that the likes of Polson, Gibbons and Garlett get more game time instead.

We still don't know if Gibbons and Cottrell will play, there was some uncertainty last week with the official club Twitter commenting that they won't be allowed to play. Very recent article in The Age (maybe this evening?) has stated that they are permitted to play in the JLT, but nothing confirmed about this match.

For what reason would they not allow them to play?

I thought Jonesy was like a 2 week injury, would not hamper his pre-season much..?

There were probably some legal issues prior to not being officially signed by the club?
Now that they are official players, I'm not sure where the issue is.

They are cleared to play JLT now at least, which I thought there was still conjecture about on the w/end - don’t see the issue if they’re on the rookie list now...
“The dual Liston Trophy winner became eligible to play in the series as soon as he was added to the Blues' list last Friday alongside athletic young midfielder Matthew Cotrell under the AFL's new pre-season supplementary list rules.”
