Game Day Practice Match Carlton v Hawthorn - February 21st 4.00PM @ Princes Park

Probably a dumb question in hindsight - guys will be hoping to impress and get a gig in the season proper.

How real do these practice matches end up being in a physicality sense? Not concerned about injuries, just wondering whether they tend to be a bit of kick and giggle rather than fully-fledged matches.

Not gonna lie, I hope we ****ing obliterate those Hawthorn campaigners.

Important Info:

I contacted the club re attending the game and the response I was given is below:

Hi TSG,

Thank you for contacting the Carlton Football Club.

Anyone is welcome to attend the game on Thursday against the Hawks. Kickoff is at 4PM with parking available on the Northern Lawn from 2:30PM. Cost to park on the lawn is $4.00, it is a coin operated machine.

Hope this info helps for those who would like to attend.

pre-season results matter now? or pre-season performances?
I've never bought the line that pre-season doesn't matter. Sydney has been notorious for losing and not caring, but perhaps you can get away with that when you're a consistent finals performer. Still, it's an attitude incongruous with success, so it's done with a great deal of risk IMO, no matter how confident you are.

FB: Plowman, Goddard, Schumacher
HB: Garlett, Weitering, Newman
C: Walsh, Kennedy, O'Brien
HF: Setterfield, C Curnow, Cuningham
FF: Polson, McKay, McGovern
FOL: Lobbe, Petrevski-Seton, Dow
INT: Phillips, J Silvagni, Gibbons, Stocker, Kerr/De Koning/ B Silvagni/Casboult/LeBois/whoever else is fit and a chance at selection.

Notable fit omissions: Cripps, Fisher, Murphy, E Curnow, Simpson, Thomas
Injured/injury cloud/unsure: Kreuzer, Marchbank, Fasolo, Jones, Williamson, Macreadie, Pickett, Lang

Good to see McGov and Setters will play.

But Lang seems eternally injury prone and despite Bolts' spin it seems Fas was a mistake. Also can we possibly get some official update on Willo?

I don't read too much into the result but individual players can build some form & confidence. If Kennedy can have the sort of game HaydossJ is hoping for this week it just gives him that confidence that the hard work of pre-season was worth it, then he goes into the JLT with that extra confidence and if he can back it up again suddenly he is going into round 1 looking to get 25 plus touches and dominate not simply do well enough to hold his spot.

Haven't checked out the exact date Jones injured his hand. It'd be close to 6 weeks by now, right? Aaaaaaaaaaand it'd be 5 weeks by the 21st, so probably no Jones.

Marchbank and Macreadie have been restricted to jogging laps, not a good sign re availability.

All I know about Williamson is that he is alive.
Are you sure? Nobody has heard anything about him apart from rumours

Robust.

I'd prefer we gave Goddard the opportunity over Casboult. Can't help but feel we're wasting valuable time and resources with that experiment.
Agreed but I’ve been saying for years he could be a great floater in the back line cos he has great hands. Probably too late now though to resurrect his career.

Don't think he has enough tools to put it altogether and make a career out of being a defender.

Doesn't have the IQ nor the athleticism.

Jones has the hands and the athleticism.

It's been a big build up...looking forward to having a look at the boys Thursday.

Hoping to see a bit of Kennedy and Setterfield on ball and having an impact as they are so important to our team going forward.

Also interested in getting a close look at Stocker in match situation.

Garlett and Gibbons are fringe best 22, so will be keeping an eye on them as to their prospects of playing round 1.
