sorry I just play where I want to.. I don't mean to intrude but it was so much fun.. hang ten.. I won't be less than a
sane translator..

this is the internet structure where everyone goes..

carry on people.. you know that I care .. shit.. i have been a drop kick..

Yep and good bye.

Skip to 2:20 to see my play of the day. Number one draft pick doing some hard defensive work in a two on one to gain ground and force a throw in. Not content to float around the edges getting cheap possessions, this lad wants to win.
I noticed that.
he seems quicker than people were suggesting pre draft but his gut running and decision making seemed as advertised.

Don't mind a bit of banter, but there's no need to clutter our thread with garbage. What a peanut. On the off chance it hasn't been done while I was typing this message, can we just delete all the posts from said peanut.

Just ignore them.

I seriously doubt he returns again. ;)

Sounds like it was a bit of a finding out who can do what kind of outing. Pleased to hear some of the names mentioned as some of our best players. No surprises about our more quieter players. Hopefully we can find another spot for Dow if he's not up to playing on the ball. Walsh, SPS, Cuningham all good news. Garlett, we'll I'm not expecting him to make it, physicality, ball handling and ability to find the ball don't seem to be there, it's just opportunities have opened up.

Sounds like we need to get our midfield structure right and sort some stuff out with our backline.

Just need to get our structures right before round one and figure out who can do what.

My dog, called Kruezer (got him the week Kruezer was drafted), the most amazing dog I’ve ever had, the sweetest Dalmatian, passed away a few weeks ago, shortly after having surgery to remove his front leg, had cancer all through the bone.

Completely irrelevant but I’m still gutted & will never look at the player Kruezer the same again

I would never name a dog “Kreuzer”.

Guaranteed to cost me a fortune in vet bills.......

No issues with Dow from my viewing. Will be much better with a proper ruckman, plus Cripps and Fisher in the side. Doesn't yet have the frame to play the bash and crash role, so will be more effective when the more mature mids can win the ball and release him into a bit of space.

Garlett got himself into some really good spots down back today. Was just his disposal that let him down. Would like to see him get another go in JLT before writing him off, because I think after the first couple of mistakes he got the yips. Can be a real killer, when you start to doubt yourself during a game. Is a skillful player, so I'm hoping this was one out of the box.

Until we're successful again like the Bluebaggers of Old Time Rock & Roll I can handle Bolts continuing to Murder My Heart. I Promise You that there will be A Time for Letting Go but it's just not yet. We need to Drift Away slowly and surely because respecting Bolton as a coach and the club for the club is truly The Best of Love.

What a jet Sam Walsh is, truly an Upbeat Inspirational Song about Life he is going to turn out to be. He's truly All for Love and there will be lots of women asking him "Can I Touch You There?"

The AFLW team had a win and all I could think to myself was "When a Man Loves A Woman"

Finally, thank **** we're not Fitzroy. I'll never have to ask the question of How Am I Supposed to Live Without You. When the club is Back on it's Feet we'll be set to Go the Distance and to be the ultimate soul provider because that's what love is all about.

I will Always Love You Bolts and the Carlton Football Club. Now that I have found you I promise you that I am in the arms of love.

P.S. It was just a practice match and our #1 pick absolutely blitzed it while one of our former #1 picks in Jacob Weitering looked confident. I'll take that and the other highs as huge victories especially without Patty Cripps and Zac Fisher. Those calling for heads to roll need to settle down and know that it was a Fools Game.

P.P.S. Congrats to Abbie McKay. Really Fathers and Daughters type stuff happening at the club.

For all the complaints there is some really good football in there especially for this time of year. Some smarts skills and taking the game on. Lot more direct and long to the forward line. Gets going and we look very dangerous. Impressive
Had a looksie too ,dunno what all the fuss is about..
Walsh is a beauty..

Was there. Overall reaction was positive but my perspective:
- Hawks a class above with kicking it around and keeping possession easily, our skills pretty poor, hopefully just rusty
- They looked bigger than us at pretty much every line and manhandled us, not sure why this is the case
- Walshy is the next Cotchin, no doubt about it
- Was clearly experimentation, no rucks, Ed not in the middle at all, Murph and Kennedy barely on field
- Polson can't find it, ever
- Garlett should never play in backline, single handedly responsible for 4 goals

So you’re saying we would of won if Garlett didn’t play and we’d played a ruck. Doesn’t sound that bad at all if hawks are stronger than us. Add Cripps and it average out size wise I believe. We win this game during 2019 season with our best 22.

The main thing to take out of today's games was seeing signs of those who could step up into the 22 for round 1.
From that perspective, Walsh and Cuningham have essentially ensured they will be there round 1.

Was noticeable early, that nearly every centre bounce had a different mixture of mids. Clearly, with no full-time ruck until the second half, a few things were being trialed. That being said, some of the pressure in parts was not up to standard, allowing the Hawks easy goals. I believe we had more flashy pieces of play, just being unable to finish them off.

From what I could see those in the best included SPS, Walsh, Cuningham and Jones.

JSOS: Did enough to suggest he is on the right track, still some areas of improvement.
Dow: Not his best game, but we've seen what he can do. No guarantee for round 1 yet.
Murphy: Did enough, seasoned professional.
LOB: Gotta trust himself more. A cannon of a left boot and as soon as he realises what he can do, watch out.
SPS: Was on from the first bounce. Clearly the fitness training is working, just silk.
Simmo: Like Murph, did enough for a run around.
Kennedy: Not quite there yet, but a massive unit who will love working with Cripps.
McKay: Looking bigger, and more importantly a lovely kick for goal.
McGovern: Only played first half, but everyone knows what he is capable of. Looked dangerous.
TDK: Played second half, agree with others that can see the potential this guy has.
Jones: Jekyl and Hyde at times. His marking looked amazing, just needs to stop going for the risky kick. If he plays within his abilities, he's best 22 everyday of the week.
Walsh: I only mentioned it about 10 times throughout the game, but damn have we got a good one. Never takes the easy option, keeps running all day and just knows where the ball is at all times. Mistakes will come, but it's gonna be a great ride seeing him develop.
Schumacher: did some nice things in short space of time. will continue to develop in VFL.
Plowman: One of my faves at the blues, didn't really shine out much today. I think he only played the first half, but his experience will be very important as the season goes on.
Garlett: Another player I posted a lot about today. He just had one of those days. He was better than today thats for sure and if you're ever gonna have a shocker might as well be the first praccy match back. Not sure if he is the answer at half back though.
Weiters: Did typical weiters stuff. Is prone to the odd strange chip kick but when he boots it stays booted. Will continue to grow with confidence.
Newman: I remarked that he would be a very important pick up for Carlton. We know he isnt gonna replace Doc, but his kicking and game sense and both very good. With the new kick in rules he is gonna be critical.
Cuners: Keeping in mind that it was only a practice match, it cant be denied that this guy has some serious attributes. Pin point kicks mixed with incredible acceleration showed everyone what he can do. He doesnt need to be the best mid in the team, but he is way too good of a player to not make something of his career at Carlton.
Polson: unfortunately couldnt get involved too much. Just needs to keep working and things will go his way.
Charlie: Hype train in full swing. Just needs to ensure his kicking at goal remains reliable and he doesnt let the hype get to his head. Reality is though he is the kinda player that wins you games off his own boot. Sit back and enjoy.
Ed: Played forward kicked a goal did his job as always.
Daisy: Looked really good. Initially thought he may struggle to get games, but clearly its gonna take some really quality seconds footy from the younger guys to dislodge him. Was screaming at Sam at one point to move to position, showing his leadership on the field cant be underestimated.
Gibbons: Tried hard, but will take some time to adapt to the speed of even an AFL practice match. Today showed he is definitely no guarantee for round 1, but hes made of the right stuff.
Levi: Once again tried hard, rucked the best he could. Even he would understand where he stands in the team.
Setterfield: Hes got it. An aura about him that says Im gonna rip this comp apart. Only played minimal minutes, but more than confident that he will be there round 1. He and Walsh will fight out the rising star.
Goddard: My goodness he is a unit. Still working his way into understanding the gameplan, but seems like more than an adequate backup for the talls.

Overall, I think there was a lot to be happy about today. At times very rusty, but that wouldve been the rust next week. As it is, 1 game down. Doubt there will be many changes for the Essendon game, Cripps and Fisher in, however I think ull find a lot more settled setup. The 6-6-6 setup will definitely help good clearance teams. Main thing is today no injuries.
Go Blues!

5. Walsh
4. Cunners
3. McKay
2. Samo
1. LOB

My top 5 performances:

5 votes: Walsh: Found plenty of it and won critical one on one contests. Was providing exceptional overlap run. Was not expecting this from a first year player. Watching him play, the thought going through my head was that he has already passed Murphy. Come round 1, I'm sure Murphy will step up but all I can say is WOW. Sam Walsh was very impressive today.
4 votes: SPS: It's clear that SPS improving his endurance will allow SPS to significantly increase his output. Still needs to develop his craft when playing at half forward, but he was involved in a lot when running through the middle of the ground. His disposal by foot is clearly a class above. After today's performance, I'm confident he'll be a very good midfielder for us over the next decade.
3 votes: Cuningham: Was very impressive. Was able to get involved and stay in the play when on the ground. Probably could have been named as 2nd best, but I have a feeling SPS may have spent more time on ball, which is why SPS was more noticeable today. Showed plenty of his exciting dash. He's definitely best 22 for mine playing half forward/midfield.
2 votes: Jones: Great intercepting and general defending. Disposal did let him down on the odd occasion today but across the board, it was a very strong performance from Jones.
1 vote: McKay: Did some exciting things when on the field. Felt there were a few marks he should have taken but didn't. Looked very dangerous up forward and hit the scoreboard. Made the most of his opportunities. Could seriously kick 50 goals this season.

Other Players:
Setterfield: Played the second half. Was a but rusty and took a while to get into the game. Had a really good chase down tackle in the 4th quarter. Think he will be a serious player for us. Is a bit quicker than I expected.

Kennedy: Played a lot of midfield minutes. Didn't find much of the ball but he was moving really well. Watch this space for mine.

Garlett: There's something to work with but he needs to tidy up his disposal. The other thing is he needs to hold a tight guard on his opponent. Let his player have too much space at times.

Polson: Please correct me if I'm wrong but I really didn't see him involved in the play.

Gibbons: Thought he was good. Probably one of our better defensively minded players. Always looking to chase and tackle. A good debut game.

JSOS: Needs to find a position. I'm not as convinced as others that he's a midfielder.

Newman: Was very solid and applied some very strong tackles. He'll be a reliable defender for us.

Goddard: Believe he came on in the second half. I actually really like what he did. He'll be a lockdown defender for us. I didn't see him get beaten in any one on one contest today. Just kept it simple and spoiled his opponent. Keep an eye on him because I reckon he could debut for us this season.

Weitering: Had a good game. Watching him live, his running is still a concern. Really needs pressure up the ground with the ball coming in slow and high. If he loses separation, he can't close the gap. He was able to nullify Ceglar in marking contests. He has clearly gone back to basics and just making sure he wins the contest. I think Weitering will have a decent year from what I saw, but he won't stand out. Will do the fundamentals well and play his role for the team.

O'brien: Clean disposal. Had a good game. Was running to the right places to receive the ball. Had a nice moment sprinting through the middle of princess park. Could surprise a few this year.

Dow: Did some good things and will only get better. Wasn't able to utilise his breakaway speed today, but won his own ball in the contest which was good to see.

To everyone who is freaking out about losing. Please relax! Practise matches are nothing more than fitness and team chemistry boosters. Last year, we won all of our practise matches - including one against the Hawks, yet we all know how well the H&A season went. We won just as many games in pre-season last year than the season proper! Results in Feb don't count for anything.
Anyway, happy to see Walsh get heavily involved and happy to hear we got through without any serious injuries.
