Training Pre-Season 2015-16

Went and had a look. Was a mixture of some match simulation and some specific drills. Session went for about 2 and a half hours so it was a solid hitout. As Drofder said it was a bit sloppy, especially to begin with, but it did improve toward the end of the session. Our quality users and ball handlers really stood out.

- Cotch, Astbury, Yarran, Hunt, Markov, McBean, all unsighted as well as Short, Castagna and Marcon.
- Conca walked laps at the start. A girl dropped her hat by the fence and asked him to pick it up. He did, but my heart was in my mouth. Did some light jogging too.
- Drummond, Maric, Grigg also on light duties. Grigg jogging/walking, same with Maric. Drummond stepped it up a bit in pace.
- At the start Grigg jogged past and told everyone to keep the chat up while stretching. Dusty told him to shut up. Was warranted I thought.
- Griff was wearing a helmet, no strapping for Sheds.
- According to Rance we had a great session on Tuesday.
- Rance got angry on a few occasions and stopped the drill himself. Ditto coaches.
- This match simulation drill called "Houli into forwards" was a bit strange and didn't seem to me that it would be overly beneficial. Basically 4 groups would kick it around in the centre square, then a whistle went and it was bombed into our backline where some players were. From there they worked the ball all the way up to the foward line with virtually no opposition. It always ended with 3 players all on their own inside the forward 50 getting the ball lobbed to the them at the top of the square. Didn't really simulate desired forward entries or match simulation at all.
- Rioli struggled above his head and was generally fumbly
- Grimes did a bit of jogging/agility on his own during match sim drills
- Sheds did some 200s at about 80%
- Chappy trained as a forward when they split into groups. Cellis, Menadue, Moore and McIntosh doing mids stoppages. Lennon, Dusty, Lambert were with the fowards among the usuals.
- Lids must have left early because I noticed he wasn't there about halfway through.
- Miles was out there but did a lot stuff away from the main group. Seemed to be on relatively light duties.
- Chol took a mini speccy on Lennon
- Those who I thought looked sharp: Dusty, Rance, Lennon, McIntosh was pretty good by the end and Chol's kicking was great.
- Bad/unimpressed: Bellis, Griffiths, Rioli all fumbly and couldn't catch a cold. Kicking wasn't much better.
- The rest were solid, most did one or two nice things.
- Townsend stayed out of a lot of the match stuff because of the concussion I suspect.
- About a dozen blokes did some full ground sprints at about 90% at the end. Rance smashed it.

Overall it was a solid hit out, not high class stuff but I suspect they were going 75-80% for most of it. A lot of the drills were to do with fine tuning our game plan more than anything. A lot of players floated in and out of the session seemingly at will. At any one time there would have been 5 or 6 blokes just kicking a footy around or jogging laps. Happy to answer any queries.
B Ellis fumbly? No way!

Richmond recruit Chris Yarran will have a delayed start to the 2016 AFL season, requiring minor surgery to repair the plantar fascia tissue in his left foot.

Yarran has managed the injury in recent seasons, however after scans and advice from the Club’s medical staff this week, the Club decided that the minor surgery will help the running defender reach 100 per cent fitness.

Richmond’s General Manager of Football, Dan Richardson said while it’s disappointing for Yarran, both he and the Club believe the minor surgery is the best option moving forward.

“Chris has worked extremely hard on his fitness over the pre-season,” Richardson said.

“While this is a setback following a solid block of training over the past month in particular, the positive is that the surgery has a high success rate, and we look forward to Chris playing his best football for us once he fully recovers.

“At this stage, we expect this to be a six-week injury, but we’ll await further medical advice post-surgery.”

The 25-year-old arrived at Tigerland in last year’s trade period after seven years and 119 AFL games at Carlton.

Well. Things just got shitty.

Anyone else reckon we're in for a shit one this year? I can just sense it.
I wouldn't call off the season because of one player but I agree we seem to be more unlucky this year than most.

just really disappointed I won't get to see Yaz tear up the opposition until much later in the year. :/

Just getting our bad luck out of the way early...... I hope.

Think you're getting him mixed up with Drummond.

Astbury trained about half the session and then did run through with Maric and Grimes on the outer wing. Drummond ran a heap of laps by himself.

Was very windy, hence the poor skills. Menadue and Deledio the stand out with their skills.

I don't get all the negativity. I am generally pretty critical of certain players. But the team we will put out is nearly the same as the last 6-7 games last year which included the wins over Hawks/ Pies.
The outs are Newman/Grigg. That's it. (Assuming Edwards gets up).

Then add in perhaps Astbury and Menadue, and Townsend to improve the team and we should be an improved team from those games.

Yarran is NOT an out.

Yarran is definately an out!

Without looking at all the recent injury news, here are the most probable outs from round 1 last year vs this year:
Carlton Outs: Bell, Carrazzo, Henderson, Judd, Menzel, Thomas, Yarran.
Poss Out: Murphy.

Richmond Outs: Gordon, Grigg, Newman
Poss Out: Edwards.

Carlton should have a pretty strong side :D:D:D:D
