Riddle was actually eligible for last year's draft (by four days) and turns 19 this month.

He's not much older than our other 18 year olds but did spend an extra year in the colts.
So he would of been like Neil who is a December baby and bottom age of his draft. Fair call to give big fellas an extra year in the Colts. Hopefully a good pick up for us.

Only if you accept excuses....I'm not upset, I'm just over his cruise around mentality that has been supported by the club. He needs to perform (agree he is a good player at his best) and the best thing about 2024 was the development of Draper, who I hope puts Cox under significant pressure to perform consistently.
He got a bad injury and came back under done. It was a leg injury so a bit hard to keep up fitness and AFL is so fast paced now, you don't have a preseason or miss a big chunk of games you aren't going to play very well. This is not just a Cox issue but basically for all AFL players.

Just saying you don't accept excuses doesn't change how things are.

Very true. As bad as Cox was that day, Hogan was in career form. His overhead marking was as powerful as I've ever seen from a key forward at the back end of last season.

Agree, that day was peak Hogan and he played like the player we had hoped he would be.

He would have done that regardless of who was playing on him.

Just a shame that it wasn't in purple :(

Hopefully this year JT goes full bunter and gives us some performances like that!

Forget Cox. I'm still filthy on Tommy Sheridan for that dropped mark in the 2015 final against Hawthorn. Rioli goals and it's game over, season over and that was the end of our golden run.

Pathetic effort and he should never play for us again.
Tommy Sheridan should never play for us again?

I am still dirty about the first 2 goals they kicked being from free kicks.

We had them under the pump, and the umpires lifted.

I agree. True footy fans need a Mob mentality, never forgive and always get square. Where is Tommy to be found? (I actually always liked Tommy)

If I'm remembering the timing of one of those free kicks correctly one of them was literally the worst free kick I've ever seen too. Basically it was dreamt up from a non-incident on the other side of the field which should've seen said umpire investigated for match fixing - instead he was given the Grand Final next week. It was what the AFL wanted.

If I'm wrong I'm pretty certain said free kick was in that game. Never even knew what the free kick was for until my friend showed me on replay the next day - no one at the ground did either. Only made the decision even worse.

They definitely lifted and targeted our players like Ballas. If that umpiring was against Collingwood, they would of burned the place down

Just before the free kicks, Mayne missed a sitter directly in front to put us three goals up. Momentum killer.

It's also possible that Hogan kicks 12 on Davies and GWS win that game by 40.

Cox was bad that day and no one is saying he wasn't. But one bad game doesn't automatically mean that Cox is crap and should be dropped for Davies.
It astounds me how stuck in ye olde times (and/or are willing to slurp at the David King fountain of click-baiting ignorance), otherwise smart football watchers are thinking Cox had the role of playing 1:1 on Hogan.

It was, as it is most times for us (and lots of other teams), a team defence approach. Draper played on Hogan probably as much if not more than Cox and they regularly would hand over between them and other defenders.

The preference looked most likely for Cox to play an intercept role, hence why he ran back into a hole in defence at that play where Banfield gave away the winning goal to GWS, instead of sticking to Hogan. In fact, until Banfield stupidly pushed his chest, Hogan was exactly where we would've preferred him - outside their F50 and kicking it in.

Tactically you might question that approach, but given how close we got, with the team we had, against a top 4 team on their own turf, I think you'd be showing more than a little silliness.

As is often the case with laconic looking players, when their performance is poor, it looks really poor, but when they are good, we tend to marvel at their nonchalance and high level of talent.

I often find myself losing my shit at Cox when he's poor and I often couple this with my inner anger that a guy who's been on an AFL list has arms that Joel Creasy would cover up.

It's not rational but I get it.

In saying all that, he needs to step up this year and be our Harris Andrews/James Sicily (role dependent) down back.

It's just as important that the 25/26 year olds improve as the guys in their early 20s.

If you describe someone as laconic, you mean that they use very few words to say something, so that they seem casual or unfriendly.

I did meet Cox once and I said "How are things going?" and all he said was "Good", so maybe I'm onto something.

In all seriousness, it's always good to find out you're using a word incorrectly on an anonymous internet forum than in real life. I can now still pretend, to have an IQ north of single figures, to my real friends.
