I’d been banging on about taking Dodson for months but clearly the Saints had very little, to no interest in him. He was expected to go in the 20’s - they took Barratt and then traded up to take Boxshall when Dodson was seemingly next best available. They could not possibly have foreseen he would still be on the board at pick 53 and I feel like they took him because it was just amazing he was still there.
Can anyone confirm if our staff had even talked to him?

As I reported a week or so back, Henry was doing box jumps in the gym which you don't do if the knee is totally buggered.
He has lots of rehab in front but may be premature to say it is career threatening.

I usually walk ove to the rehab group, will check him out closely on Monday and report back to you eager campaigners.

They also hate Garcia and Arie as well because they were late pick too.

Hope your post was a pisstake, if not, give yourself an uppercut.

Henry is probably my favourite player to watch in this side - he lights us up!

If he's not ready for round one, I won't mind. The objective is to get him in as many of our games as possible, not to do what we did with Brad Crouch.

Get him right and lock him in!
Exactly. I don't care if it takes half the season and he has to play a month with Sandringham on limited minutes. Just as long as he gets a 5 weeks or so block in the senior team and is primed for finals.
That game - I think it was against Geelong - where he went full beserker was one of the moments of the season...that, and Sharman's game - I think it was Essendon - where he went all Alpha dog 🤩
Higgins goal against Carlton was also bliss (if you didn't enjoy it, then your life is just one long missionary position)

Shoey and Dodson. Both project high and we got them very late. It’s things like that that win you flags

luckily we can change the team on a weekly basis
I mean, Doug Wilkie Battle was arguably undersized but we didn't change it because of how good each of them are individually

Therefore we got rinsed by Adelaide (Tex, Fog, Thilthorpe), Brisbane (Hipwood, Daniher, Morris), Bulldogs (Darcy, Naughton, Lobb) etc.

Same could happen with Gus - he performs too well to be dropped despite the detriments to our defensive structure

Which is why I so want 195cm Caminiti to succeed as a key defender. We don't have anyone else apart from Cordy. Barrat and Tauru being long-term guys to partner Caminiti

I dont remember getting rinsed?

but yeah we definitely need another tall and agree that caminiti looked really good when he played down there this year, would not do him any harm to trial him there, it's not like he'll suddenly forget how to lead for the ball

Must be nice to have erased those thrashings from your memory:sob:

King was at just the right age to start dominating but injury ruined another season. Most key forwards come good around 24/25. For me injury will be his biggest enemy. So far he's been good but has never been resilient. Without Butler fit add Memberey missing games too we were really up against it.
Hopefully with a much more solid, stronger body now that will help. Finally looking like a man.

I initially thought this too but I don't think he's agile or fast enough to take on the likes of Cameron/Papley/Rankine etc.

Hopefully I'm wrong though - Brandon Starcevich would be a good role model

Got a little bit of Dempster about him, in my opinion. Fantastic jump, good hands. He’s right on the fringe, but like Byrnes he will always be looking over his shoulder at our draftees.

What is his tank like?

He needs to become elite at something, and I’m guessing it won’t be run. I feel like intercept marking will be his schtick.

Probably like Dempster, who didn’t have that elite aspect other than finishing up being pretty elite in his role and one of the first picked. Not saying that’s Gus, but Dempster was a jet for a few years.

There is a lot of Pollyanna about the last couple of months on here. At July, this forum was out of control with derision and beyond. Carlton was a VFL team and nearly lost, Sydney hit an awful period ( check it out), Essendon had hit the period where they were bottom 4 for the final weeks, but the second half re Geelong was superb and exciting. Let’s not rub ourselves too much. Particularly when many had abused the club wildly for 3 months. Every team has injuries and we were really not that badly done by if you check other clubs. We need a bit more sack than that.

I just hope he becomes James Sicily. Only 1cm shorter

Already good overhead and reads the play well, just needs to be elite in his defensive craft and moving opposition under the ball

While it’s definitely true that we weren’t smacked to oblivion with injuries, like Carlton and Richmond were, we were still hit extremely hard by them early in the season.

We went into R1 missing IMO 8 of our expected best 23 or so- which is a serious number- and then during that game we lost Crouch forever, and then the following week we lost Wood and Henry for a chunk of games each as well, so that’s very comfortably more than enough injuries to make it incredibly hard to compete, and nigh on impossible to beat the very good teams in particular.

Especially away, where most of our games then were.

Look at how Melbourne and Freo also fell in holes once they lost a few key personnel to injuries.

You don’t need to be down to 24 fit blokes to be seriously up against it. Especially if most of your injuries occur to those who are playing similar roles.

Not saying we were perfect and didn’t have things to work on by any means, but as was the case with a few teams, injuries derailed our season.

Considering how incredibly far off full strength we were (especially by the end of the Pies game) we started the season terrifically well in those first two games, before we probably reached a breaking point with injuries by the end of that game.

Even then, we looked like we could have wiped the floor with Essendon the following week, had we capitalised on our opportunities.

But when you’ve got babies like Pou and Garcia playing 3/4 of a game in the midfield for 2 or 3 disposals, and a Hastie playing a full game on the wing for 4 touches, you’re in a bit of strife against good teams.
