Using the amount of times a player is named in the best players at VFL level for basis of delisting is a pretty flawed argument. However looking at who was named best players on playhq Keeler 5 times in the best, max hall 2 times from 6 games. Compared to Cordy once, McLennan 4 times from 16 games, Hastie 3 times from 14 games, Collard twice and Arie only 4 times in the best. Keeler named in the best more times then any of them?Either player was rarely listed in the best players for Sandy. That is a good indication that they didnt have regular impact in their VFL performances.
And fact is both are out of contract at the end of next season so it's very accurate to say they are good chances to be delisted if they have meh years.
I wouldnt have said any of those other players were regularly impactful at Sandy either. They all might have had 1 or 2 good games but their performances also clearly showed why they spent the majority to entire season at that level.Using the amount of times a player is named in the best players at VFL level for basis of delisting is a pretty flawed argument. Sorry for being defensive and dieing on this hill but I just can’t agree that Keeler and Hall had such Meh years at VFL level to the point some people would see them delisted, when in fact they outperformed most.
We’ll get a better read on things once the practice matches are done and dusted to pencil in best 23..How many XXIII's you reckon you've done?
Yeah I can see what you’re saying, we will probably delist somewhere between 5-8 players, maybe even less considering we only have 3 draft picks, probably depends on what free agents they can poach. I just think Keels and Hall as well as Garcia and Arie are probably our most promising players at sandy. Their improvement trajectory is good and buys them more time and I just disagree with the notion that Hall or Keeler had Meh years at VFL level when they didn’t.I wouldnt have said any of those other players were regularly impactful at Sandy either. If you are OOC and playing at Sandy, you are a good chance to be delisted at the end of the year. I dont know why that is controversial to say. Multiple players need delisted every year and those stuck in the VFL will be the ones cut first. If neither player can take that next step as a 3rd year (in Keelers case) or at 23 (in Hall's case), then they will be finding new careers.
Press conference. He was talking about playing largely half back but with rotations through the midfield.Any idea where this actually came from? I saw Zero Hangar suggested the same, but its website is 820% ads and impossible to locate where paragraphs are
Well the post was somewhat tongue in cheek. But to be honest, I think some of the training posts are part of the over-hype we occassionally see pre-season. And I'll dob myself in on that level. I went to a few training sessions in 23 and 24 and posted reports. The problem is, in the warm weather, under little pressure, practicing well schooled drills - players really do look they are flying and in the best shape they have ever been in. The problem with watching a team train is you don't see any other team train. And guess what, they all look like they are flying.Thats why it is important to read the various training reports. I think they are balanced, don't think anyone thinks who do them that we are winning the comp next year.
Out of interest, which players would you have on the chopping block before them?Yeah I can see what you’re saying, we will probably delist somewhere between 5-8 players, maybe even less considering we only have 3 draft picks, probably depends on what free agents they can poach. It’s obviously performance based so if they don’t perform to the level required and others go past them then yeah they’re in trouble. But I could name 8 players I would delist first.

Harsh on Byrnes…pick 50 odd in his draft year, has got incrementally better each season!Well the post was somewhat tongue in cheek. I recall watch Byrnes in particular just carve up a couple of sessions last year.I think I posted on here that this would be his break out year. It wasn't, he was the same player in match time as he was the previous year.
Training is a bubble

In my opinion, Garcia, Arie, Keeler, Hall are the guys at sandy I rate the highest. The first 3 a little bit ahead of Hall. Not saying I don’t rate anyone else, but I would delist most at sandy if push came to shove before the first 3.Out of interest, which players would you have on the chopping block before them?
Yeah, but having a good AFL career isn’t about being in a race to see who debuts first. We presume that he was only offered a 1 year contract? If you haven't debuted and you're on a one year deal you're up against it. I would love to see Keeler make it but he's probably more likely a bust than not at this stage. It's promising that he seems to have come back in better nick though.

I feel like Ari is the first choice Battle replacement.
He's only a 2nd year player so his one on one contested work will be a weakness for another year or two while he gets stronger, but he really looks like a versatile mid sized defender.
Keep up the good workNot imminent, more like done. Met his parents today, seem like a fantastic down to earth family with good banter. Proper genuine people, he has fit in really well with the group and who knows what a full time environment will do for him. We don't realise how tough it is for these kids who don't make it. The juggle between Uni, working, footy training twice a week then game day whilst expecting to develop at the same rate as full time footballers must be hard.
I haven't been on here much of late but I'll write up something soon if enough people are interested in my ramblings.
Fair“Not even close” is a stretch for Steele.
He’s got an equal third place finish in the Brownlow under his belt, after all, and is a two-time All-Australian.
