Come on Tommy, it's preseason and nearly Christmas. You need to triple that at this time of year. 90+ playing CHB. Hunter Clark for the Brownlow and our new ruck from the SANFL to be the new Max Gawn while winning the most admirable thighs award from Sinclair..
Look it Gringo, because it's preseason happy times...I'll readdress my post, and give all my attention to this critical dilemma.

Okay, after reviewing the data, I think the best I can do here is drop Max down to 20+ goals, and stick the extra 10+ goals on to Sharman's tally, which will take him to 70+ goals for the season.
That should make everyone happy. Party times baby 😎

All these training reposts are amazing - thank you everyone.

Problem is I’ve become addicted to them and the positivity and where am I going to get my fix when they break for the holidays?

Can someone please just make some up over the next couple of weeks.
Please.. 🙏🏼🤣
Someone should be able to get AI to make something up a couple of times a week.

This is Matho, he’s another St Kevin’s Old Boy from the VAFA.
He’s an elite 800 metre runner, will be very good for Sandy, covers the ground beautifully and has an elite left shoe, likes it tough as well.

Looks like the lovechild of Lenny Hayes and James Hird.

What's the knock on this guy? How come he wasn't drafted and do we have any spots left on our list with the Big Hairy Boy joining us?

agree,im in thailand and have a schedule where i wipe myself out on the piss every other day & every 3 days i spend 3 hours at a sauna with swimming pool the works,so now and then up pops a day where im doing niether, tomorrow will be one,but ive got the st.kilda cc games to stream & gloriously right now they are playing their T20 games of the fixture,so 2 games in one day, essendon and prahran up tomorrow

but on a weekday with not much else going on i can just immerse myself in these training reports among other things,so much appreciated
Well, at least you've got a system.

This kid's a jet. He'll be the rookie that plays every game this year. Could play anywhere. Will probably start between half back and wing but there's no reason he couldn't go into the middle or even half forward.
In a couple of years we'll be glad we didn't have pick 5&6 (thanks Higgo).
I think we would've taken Langford and Travalgia with picks 5&6

Hard to get a gauge on who is doing well when everyone is a superstar who will be pushing hard for brownlow and the rising star honours.

Still, something is better then nothing at this time of year.
We could compared this preseason to last year.?

Last year's preseason when compared to 2022 people on here noticed huge differences.

Probably although I'm not sure Langford actually fits our profile. Would have been interesting that's for sure.

Langford probably longer term plays Macrae's inside extractor role. Probably still need to draft a longer term replacement or hope we get LDU types.

Travaglia looks like a Lyon style player and adds to our run and roll set up. I really loved Travaglia's Metro v Country game. He was probably second-best on ground behind Lindsay but looked the more flashy of the two. I loved Lindsay's game but there was something about him reminded me of an upmarket Ben Paton. I think Trav has the bigger upside but probably starting a bit further back.

I tried to tell people that they shouldn't assume that we'd go pure mid with those picks. The way we set up in the future is going to be good to watch. Wilson, Henry, Nas, Hastie, Garcia etc are all runners. Actually Windhager too. Carroll doesn't mind gallop either. Add Schoenmaker's distribution kicks and the older guys like Sinclair, Wood and Hill and we have a really good spread and run set up. Probably one of the best in the AFL.

I went through and watched our new draftees highlights again last night and the common theme that stood out with all, was their competitiveness, natural footballing abilities and contested marking. We have gathered a highly talented bunch of kids, all with their own elite skill sets.

I know they are yet to play a game, but what a difference nailing a few drafts in a row makes to our prospective future!

I also had a look at our 2024 team stats compared to the top teams and we are comparative on nearly all measures. The stats where we were below the top teams were 'disposals per goal'  and 'metres gained'. We were taking 4 to 8% more disposals per game than the better sides to score. There are obviously a lot of factors that cause those variances, but if we can address those efficiencies we will start winning those close games.

As many have stated having a fit and available list will be critical to our finals chances next year. The cautious supporters will still have a 'glass half empty' approach, but personally I am excited about the talent we now have at our club and our future.

I think Trav shoes really great mid traits. His drive out of a stoppage is really strong. Also he kicks goals.

Including 28 disposals and 3 goals vs Dragonz

What I took from yesterday's training drill where bj would punt the ball long to a contest then sharp ball movement was Lyon on the boundary yell width, him wanting players to look on the outside before going through the corridor. Was trying to get bj to go more boundary and was having ( for the drill anyway) have Butler as wide as possible.
Putting 2+2 together to make six, he wants to stretch the zone out of shape before going back through the corridor.
In isolation a defence can roll across to cover that, but as we saw in the se ond half v Geelong, they were blown because of our run and couldn't recover when we did that and switched forward through the corridor.

Lyon grabbed the best of the list he inhereted, and since then every player recruited or drafted can run and many at absolute extreme levels, even Arie and Boyd have tanks.
SaintsTV had some fascinating stats on how we out run every team in the last 14 weeks and how, in his rookie year Wilson had 9 of the 25 best distance and sprint games in AFL history. Now we have another in Travaglia.
Is it the right plan? Well it is Lyon's plan and let's be frank, we have had one plan work since 1873 so at very least it is a specific and well thought out direction.

One thing I really do like about Lyon is he thinks outside the box and is innovative. Remember when we stormed the league in 2009. The way to pinch a flag is to try something the others' aren't.

He can definitely become a full time mid but he's not a one position player.

He noted that we were a running side when he arrived. Also really liked Geelong's 2022 set up where they had a limited midfield but really incredible rebound and spread off HB.

Random thoughts from today's training

‐‐----------------------------------------------------------

Tauru made a short appearance.
Big group. Only Stocker not in main group.
Would hate to try to move Boyd off the ball.
Henry out amd running with no knee strapping.
Roh and Hammer in fluro hats.
Jack Carroll running laps with Windy both in rehab, don't look injured. Maybe a nick somewhere.
Henry in rehab in good spirits. Separate program to the other two. Lots of work on knee bends and quads. Slow run through, gradually getting quicker, not labouring, gait looks good, obviously no direction changes. Some gentle kick to kick, followed by ground ball gets.
Main group, 50 metre sprints with a ball through obstacles. Jones, Pou powering with lots of talk.
Henry feeling his knee. More three quarter run throughs. Think it will be a while before he is fit. Running 66's in 11 seconds, improving it to 10. Henry looks OK for a second or third running session, time to look at match sim.
Two umpires just ran past, looks like sim of some kind.
Three groups, forward pocket Nepean Highway end practising close in tackling and evasion taken by bj.
Middle group half field non contact sim with umpires.
Far end ground ball gets then disposals.

Groups interchanging every 5 minutes. In sim Arie running hard. Dodson and Pou look good. Dodson looks like a footballer.
McLennon in fluro hat.
Good to see the umpires coach ( the one Hird didn't like) with the umpires, discussing positioning etc. They need to train as much as anyone else. Elini is back. Think she had a baby. Looks fit. Good to see her back, she is not a bad umpire.
Jack Steven at training speaking with Tony Brown. Looks pretty fit taken a bit of weight off.
Think Jack Voss is training.
You really know what Bolton wants.
Christ knows why we were so down on Travaglia during draft time, including me. Holy hell the kid is good, clean, great disposal. Wonderful mover, can see him debuting very early. Personally more impressed than I was with Wilson this time last year.
Lyon looking for width then through the corridor. Looking to stretch oppo zones.
Bolton and Lyon in deep discussion, something about Tim Tam's v Iced Vo Vo's. Got heated at times.
20 minute full field sim, no Max, Windy, Hammer. Boyd v Roh.
Boxshall with a nice mark and goal. Has a boot.
Heath forward looks involved.
Big pack mark from Boyd.Beast.
High intensity, Keeler, Sharman prominent. Arie off a HB. Heath with a big pack mark and play on. Definitely developing. Full contact, Boxhall gets a bloody mouth. Wilks on Keels good contest.
Trav fumbles in traffic, two steps recovers and kicks to advantage.
High pressure, Macrae nabs Pou with a strong tackle.
Carroll in the match sim so is obviously OK. No Hugo today.
Buts, Clark, Roh, Steele, Wood up the race not involved in last part of the match sim.
Macrae into the rooms with a trainer.
Younger blokes in green vests, shots at goal. Yellow bibs v red training tops, cross the field, back half transition
Young ones, Dodson, Travaglia and Boxshall look good. Heath and Keeler continue to trend upwards, Boyd is a beast and contrary to some reports can play.
Now red shirts v green bibs with yellows taking shots for goal. Brad Hill is evergreen.
Macrae grabs his runners and goes inside.
Running now so Adios amigos.

Great report. Anyone see Hugo this week? He wasn’t there last Friday.

Might be his Maccas shift day? Would slap a burger together like a madman

Ultimately I think out of our two top 10 picks, Travaglia is likely the more bankable and predictable prospect with his trajectory in becoming at least a good midfielder for us and a player that suits Ross Lyon's game plan to a tee

Tauru makes things so exciting because we have no idea where he will end up whether he becomes a superstar inside mid, a superstar key defender, a superstar key forward, or a flop in totality

I like the strategy of going hopefully low risk with one pick, and maximum risk with the other

Legend has it....or an awesome urban myth.......that how many 4 n 20 pies Plugger could reach up and pull down off a shelf determined if he passed his fitness test...!!!!!

I don't believe that for a nano second.

Mind you.....Plugger did love a meat pie !!!!!
He loved take away food. Especially burgers.

I know the guy who was our Club Doctor at that period and he would often spring Plugga, and others from the Ballarat Crew, wolfing down Maccas in the carpark.

He kept trying to ween them off their habit of stopping for take away on the drives down but with little success.
