He’s a much maligned player sadly but important to our midfield mix!
He deserves a clear run at it in ‘25

I think any criticism he cops is well deserved!

Given his time in the system his lack of physical development and aerobic capacity is pretty damning. He can play and has some unique inside mid tools, but he seriously lets himself down with his preparation in my view.

If he doesnt have an exceptional year in '25 I can see him at another club in '26.

Sorry mate but I strongly disagree.

He has had some freak injuries along the way. If he can get his time on ground up he could become a weapon for us

BOYD ADDED TO AFL LIST
🏉
🏉

Congratulations to former Murray Bushranger Harry Boyd on being added to St Kilda’s senior list as a preseason supplemental selection.
Harry was invited to train with the Saints after an impressive career at Norwood in the SANFL, where he won the 2024 Magarey Medal.
The Shepparton FC along with the Murray Bushrangers takes pride in developing quality footballers through its outstanding and highly professional football program.
We wish Harry all the best for the 2025 season and can’t wait to see him in action!

Clark is a very clever player, always looking to move play on, by using a tap on or a grubby little kick, which often pays off.
And if he could bring back that special side-step more often, would be a bonus.

Some of the training footage from preseason made it look like he could actually move reasonably fast. He looked on his way to being an A grade player under Richo.. If he can get fit and committed he could still be anything.

Thats it he is 25yo, 26 at the start of the season and we still allow him the IF's. Its a 50% chance he wont be at the club in 2026. Injuries or otherwise he has been a poor top 10 pick in my view.

Heath will pass Boyd and step up into the no. 1 ruck. Boyd is a stop gap at best. Can out mark, out run, out tap and is four years younger……
Well isn’t that great?
Boyd is actually now at the age when rucks come into their own giving Heath more time for development.
I’d say that’s quite a good succession plan.

Actually he can't at the moment, Boyd beat him in the ruck, can't take huge pack marks and easily outruns Heatlh in both match sim and in the 500's.
Like you have never seen either play.

He was flying last preseason until he got injured late. He’s had some devastating injuries. Not your run of the mill stuff.

Fingers crossed he finally gets a good run at it for the majority of the season. Fully fit he’s picked every week!

Agree. Always loved what he could do. He looked like he could be anything in 2020. It’s no slight - so many kids get hammered by injuries and they just never push on. He’s still been good at what he does, underrated in tight, but he plays 60%. At some point the excuses will run out, like they did for Dow at Carlton. He’ll be a late pick if he leaves.

You are correct.
But firstly the raft of significant injuries should not be referred to as excuses.
Secondly, as long as we are courting LDU, Hunts will have a place on our list.

100% agree Joff! Boyd is also better at finding his mids than Heath with his taps and better with his handballing at stoppage to release the mids. I feel like this is a really valuable skill being overlooked. He actually has Ro covered at this too. Ro just bombs it forward himself and turns it over a lot. Ro also has a very low taps to advantage vs nearly all ruckman. Ro obviously kills most rucks around the ground with marks and stats though.

I still want to see him play some practice games but I definitely wouldn’t be righting him off just yet. He won the Magarey Medal and
clearly won the battle vs the best VFL ruck in the state game for a reason.

His Gippsland coach said he had hardly touched the weights in his junior years, for me thats a bit of a red flag. But it may have been more his family circumstances than his motivation. He doesnt have a big frame but he doesnt rely on strength as a part of his game. Dalrymple and the club rated him highly lets hope he can fulfill that potential.
I think it was more injury related right? Didn’t play much of 1H 23 and missed parts early in 24.

He is in the AFL system now, do the requisite training, commensurate with your physical build and what the expert trainers want and how they want you to develop.

Don't do that and you will be out on your arse and we will talk about a no.10 bust. It is as simple as that.

I saw blokes on Wednesday do a 2 hour gut busting, high intensity session followed by multiply 500 hundreds. I saw players like O'Connell almost pass out, I saw Collard have a poor 500 hundred, Henry on the bike 'c'mon brudda, stop the head wobbles' as Collard stuggled. Next go he went as hard as he possibly could for the 500 and continued on for another lap, he was passed by one runner but he kept going as hard as he could even though he was completely blown, collapsing on to his hands and knees at the finish line.

I saw King run himself until he was retching, and then backed up for more. This is what is required and demanded at the Saints. Everyone from Steele down gets with this commitment or your AFL career will be short. Tauru has been on the sideline watching, he knows what is required.
Which should mean he gets a fair old pass this year. He’s really a 2026 story. Hopefully he just does a full preseason from Feb-ish on until May. Then start his season.

For what it’s worth I heard last night from a very reliable source that Caminiti will be staying with the forward line group when he returns from his shoulder recon rehab in the new year.
Wow, who plays back and you’d think that means RoMa is no chance of playing much forward.
