I wouldn't be holding my breath. He had his chances last year, tired of hearing this narrative about Fin. Doesn't matter what he continues to do in the VFL, needs to start producing at AFL level.

I think we all agree with that. I think we all, also, realise that different players take different times to mature. I'm happy to let the year play out without making nuff-nuff predictions before. I mean, the number of times other players have been written off for taking to long: Josh Daicos, De Goey, Darcy Moore, Murphy, Leon Davis .... the list goes on an on. I'm tired of hearing the nostradamuses make their premature predictions and then act like they knew the player would make it all along.

Short memory, must have a shoooort.....

If Reef is to work down back, I see him as a Howe replacement. He's a 3rd tall type height/build. And Howe like speed.
His struggles up forward seem to be dealing with body contract and defenders flooding back at AFL level. And the 3rd tall defender gets more freedom to zone out take grabs which he seems to be good at in a forward like simulation.
A lot of failed forwards have worked out as great defenders. It's usually not the other way around. So definitely worth a try. Best of luck to Reef!

And we have our 2025 pre-season overhype in the first week! Let’s hope McInnes doesn’t share the same fate as Eyre.
I think aiming to have him become a back up who projects as a best-7 back over time is a much better plan than bringing in a Tomlinson-type.

I also hope they work hard to try & pry out a Nick Murray-type for next year.

It would really stuff up the whipping boy thread.
Nah. It just shifts the targets. If we can become really hopeful and excited about Reef we can really hype him and then whip the match committee if they don't select him. It's a tried and true formula. Someone ends up in the stocks.

Hey everyone, stop being hopeful and excited.
If you re-read his comment, he specifically says overhype. People are allowed to be excited but acting like things are going to click for both Reef and Fin because they had a positive showing on day 3 of pre-season is gilding the lily a bit.

I'm old enough to recall Arlo Draper and Isaac Chugg getting big wraps on their pre-season performances. They both got delisted following those.

I reckon that concussion knocked Arlo around, he wasn't the same once he came back and could never find that pre-season form. It was bad one tbf, that kept him out for 3 months. A real shame.

I was hopeful that a good ‘un had slipped through to us with Arlo.

That was the talk at the time.
He was behind the ball in his first pre-season, coming off that shoulder injury in his draft year so his fitness wasn't there and took some time. They even took him out of the program half way through the year to get fit, but they played him in the wrong posiiton (forward and then back, he was a mid) then pre-season 2023 he did that concussion and we didn't see him until may or june I reckon, and wasn't the same. Lost the form he showed in the preseason.

Sometimes they would put him in the middle in some games after HT and looked good

What could have been..

I reckon given the amount of content he likes on Instagram about bags, coke and ket - plus vaping at our Mad Monday after the GF - there wasn't much hope that he was going to be an AFL quality player.

I thought he had all the tools, Jen

I think there were 2 major issues

1. I think he was played out of position most of the time. Like you, I thought he played well in the centre I think he should have been a full time mid
Maybe the concussion hindered that

2. Most significantly, imo, he couldn’t push from contest to contest, maintain intensity to always chase and hunt the ball, esp when he was beaten

Shame
