I thought he had all the tools, Jen

I think there were 2 major issues

1. I think he was played out of position most of the time. Like you, I thought he played well in the centre I think he should have been a full time mid

Maybe the concussion hindered that

2. Most significantly, imo, he couldn’t push from contest to contest, maintain intensity to always chase and hunt the ball, esp when he was beaten

Shame
IMO Draper being played out of position is nonsense.

He played as a high half back and couldn’t find the ball. If he played as a deep, shut down back pocket I could understand that point but he was still played in a role where he could find roam up the field and find the ball.

Pretty much any AFL quality midfield can go to the half back flank and rack up the ball.

He couldn’t find the ball because his outside game was non existent not because he was played out of position. If his outside game couldn’t hold up at playing half back at VFL level I’m not sure what chance he has playing as an AFL midfielder.

Maybe his outside game would have developed down the track if given more time or didn’t have the concussion but I don’t buy that he was played out of position.

First session of preseason for IQ. Lippa and Crisp this morning

Hey Jen, asking you as our resident expert: do we train every Monday and what time? When do we typically wrap up for the Xmas break? Are our Monday sessions interesting to attend from a tactical standpoint (don’t want to rock up to watch us run laps and play 2min of game practice)?

Mondays 11am. Goes for 1hr, and more of a skills session where they work on the fundamentals.
And I'd say their last session will be Friday Dec 20

That doesn't seem to be a rule on this board, S36ers..... it's too late for standards my friend, you know that!
True. I'm actually just following the board principle of re-directing you solely because I disagree with your view.

I think the opposite of what you are saying is the more general rule. We tend to still carry on about blokes as though they are guns when they've been on the list for ages without showing much and have become very likely to be delisted. Often rating the blue sky of someone who ahsn't done anything above the proven senior role players like WHE.

Pre-season week 2: Monday - Sklls session.
11am.

Per last week's first session, Monday's will be skills session, as they work on the fundamentals and their craft.
A smaller group compared to Friday

** Parker wasn't wearing a number, could be in line for an upgrade?**

It was Lippa. Q and Crisp's first session back

Group contained:

  • Lippa
  • IQ
  • Maynard
  • Mitchell
  • Houston
  • DeMattia
  • Allan
  • Frampton
  • TJ
  • Smit
  • Ryan
  • Crisp
  • Reef
  • Sullivan
  • Howe
  • Johnson
  • Mihocek
  • Long
  • Parker
  • Cox

Not too much to talk about on these short sessions, more about working through their skills. Kicking, goal kicking, some drills that worked through some transition and moving in numbers.

I heard DC went for a scan, but likely just cautious as he got a knock at training a couple days ago, but probably just on the safe side to see if there is anything there.

No Steene... Probably getting his hair re-done, as it appears he let Ryan did.. god knows what to it last night lol
