Now don’t jump on me, because this is just an observation and I’m as excited to see him play as anyone…

But does anyone think that Houston looks a little less fit/lean than lots of our other players?

For a guy who is an AA and been in the system for a long time, I am surprised to see him seemingly at a higher BF% than many of our younger (and older) guys.

This isn’t a criticism. Just an observation. Perhaps our training standards can even lift him up another level by the end of pre-season?
Yeah, doesn't look as chiselled as some - but some blokes are just like that - no idea if it says anything about his condition or whether there is room for him to get better in that regard. Great if he has another level even though his current level makes him a top 5 player at the club.

I am a passionate supporter just like you.

I am nowhere near as fit as Dan and I’m not suggesting that he isn’t fit or in great overall shape.

But we have seen physique changes in players like Reef, Macrae, Parker, Ryan, etc and countless players before and this generally amounts to improvements in their capabilities.

It just makes me wonder about Port’s training standards compared to our own (I rate us as quite a fit and well-trained team under Wade) or whether Dan can take his game to another level under our training. That’s all.
I think fitness wise he'd be off the charts. Just a different body type.

Different clubs/players have different standards

If you look across most of the players from Melbourne, most of them don't appear to place a lot of focus/importance on being lean/ripped/good skin folds

Our players/club appears to take it very seriously. Outside a few (maybe a handful), basically all our players are quite cut/lean

I expect it will rub off on Houston as well and by the end of next season (maybe even start of next season) he'll cut a different figure

I’ll take 10, please!

Houston was a rookie pick, right? Wonder if perceived conditioning issues (that perhaps weren’t true for he or Swan) factored into that?
In the space of 40 minutes you’ve gone from eyeballing him as “a little less fit/lean than others” to it potentially factoring into his draft position 9 years ago! Let it go I reckon.

I have enjoyed reading your posts for a long time. Nice to meet you.

I won’t lose any sleep over this and I look forward to Dan becoming one of my favourite players 😊

I reckon two consecutive years of All-Australian blazers speaks more to Houston's fitness than his physique to be honest.
I think him being a porker is why we didn't take Stringer :(. Two porkers exceeds the AFL diversity quota and you only get a cap saving for one of them.

Funny I always thought Membrey was taller but here’s McCreery almost looking down at him! Beau is stealth tall.
It’s a testament to what Membrey’s been able to achieve and why I think it was so clever bringing him in. He just knows how to kick goals.

McReery’s a beast though he’d sit alongside Danger as the most powerful/ explosive player in the game. It’s a shame he probably never makes a midfield move work.
