Apart from a few people picking Craig, nobody got any of the sacked coaches right, in a year where a whole bunch toppled.

1st Coach Sacked - Ratten, Clarkson, Worsfold (in that order).

Yep, that's three of the top 5 teams right thar.

Surprised nobody guessed Malthouse...

I'd be interested in hearing the thoughts of our users on how they expect the 2011 season to unfold.

I'm not necessarily talking about Essendon, as I'm still yet to conjure up the second edition of the Crystal Ball Thread, but rather the competition as a whole.

Obviously there's a lot of water to go under the bridge until March 2011, and even then anything can happen in football, as they say, but for a bit of fun, here's a few of my predictions for the season.

Premiers: Collingwood
Runners Up: Fremantle
Bolter: Fremantle (to premiership contention); Melbourne (to the 8)
Slider: Geelong (to 7th or 8th)
Wooden Spooner: West Coast
Most Improved Player: Colin Sylvia to become one of the most damaging players in the league
Norm Smith Medallist: Steele Sidebottom
Brownlow Medallist: [strike]The flashiest, best behaved player[/strike] Ryan Griffen
Coleman Medallist: Matthew Pavlich
Best KPD in the league: James Frawley
First coach sacked: John Worsfold
Rising Star Award: David Swallow

Of course having read over that, I'm not very happy with it, and will in all likelihood change my opinion several times between now and the season.
Not even my witty remark about the Brownlow was true.

Wow. What do I learn from this?

For 2012, it's opposite day.

Haha, I love 'em!

My best mate and I have sat down and done a ladder and our Essendon best 22 pretty much every year for about the last 15 or so seasons.....I don't think we've got any better at the exercise!

This demonstrates what i was agruing on the main board recently in the "how long will it take Essendon to win a flag?" thread - there are just sooooo many sheep in the footy world who will say this can't happen or that can't happen, this list isn't going to win a flag for at least 5-10 years etc.......but the reality is that EVERY YEAR there are a few sides that nobody saw risng or sliding to the degree they did - that much is a given.

For that reason I've amended my predictions in recent years, and now always try to throw at least a couple of smokeys in/near the 4.....history shows it's going to happen consistently, so I may as well have a punt - really not sure who this year though!
