Anyone got any updates on Old Mentone and whether Uni High stay in C grade in 2023 and Preston drop?

School dropped the news 2 weeks after the season finished. Completely blindsided the football club. They’ve tried to move to a more suburban setup a couple of times in the last few years but not much ground availability in the surrounding suburbs.

A twos player then took up an assistant coach role at a SFL club and managed to convince a few good young players to crossover for coin. That appeared to start the mass departures, with uncertainty around coaching and a home ground adding to the issues.

Scouring local clubs pages, it looks like up to 20 players have left to clubs like Cheltenham, Dingley, Mordialloc and Highett in the SFL, Bonbeach in the MPNFL and then Beaui and St Bedes in the VAFA.

Not sure where it leaves the club, but unlikely they’ll be able to field two teams. Can they field just one team in the Clubbies or D4?

Would say if only one team it would be somewhere in the clubbies. Leaves C with 9 so be it or stuff up the other grades.

9 clubs would be 18 rounds with 16 games and two byes. At least, it would be a balanced fixture unlike this year's farce.
Strangely would mean that the C Grade would have had 20 + 16 = 36 games which is exactly what the others would have over two years if they go with 9 teams.
Don't see the point of sacrificing a UHS or Preston especially when the women's, clubbies, unders all have odd number of teams in many grades. C men are not special.

10 clubs has been the traditional number for many years due to the nice fit of 18 rounds with a balanced home and away fixture. Leagues usually like to have 10 in every grade and the lowest grade would be the one to have a different number where required.

In recent season, leagues seem to be more accepting of 9-club grades and it has been far less essential to be 10. Personally, I have preferred 10-club grades until recent years as I now see the benefit in having byes. The only clubs that complain are the ones that get them in Round 1, Round 18 or either side of the King's Birthday bye or rep fixtures.

Mentone will not be able to field two teams in 2023. Very unfortunate but fact. J Bourke and others certainly have no regard for clubs and community footy.

Gorman is a Beaumaris junior who has gone back there to play B Grade, Owens has signed Beaumaris, where him and his 2 brothers played junior football, as his home club when not playing for Frankston. Not calling out Highett in SFNL who have recruited 4 OM players to play next season ????

Would be strange to call them out on the VAFA board

Great night for the club tonight.

Not only did we have 185 at training, with 2 players running a sub 4 minute mile in the time trial.

A son of a former legend, Jarrod Weddle, (Josh Weddle - 2 games for OIGFC) was drafted in the 1st round to Hawthorn.

Glad he still has some brown in his jumper.

Go Hoes
