Do people really think Thomson will be delisted?

Why would we sign a project player like that and then delist him as he starts to show promise?

We won't, it's just people wanting to delist a player they haven't seen, and he's the only player drafted before last year not to play IIRC.

I'd bet my BF account he won't be delisted:thumbsu:

played well in the wafl apparently. Give him a game this week so his confidence isnt r*ped of him when we get destroyed by hawthorn and geelong. Give him a go before we think about delisting him.

Only guessing here but I think people are throwing up Thommo's name as a possible delisting with the assumption we'd be able to pick him up in the rookie draft, hence not taking up a senior list place (which would go to Wilkes / Davis) while still allowing us to 'develop' him. Well the smart people would look at it that way anyway...

Personally I think we have to keep him, and this is the way to do it. Provided some 2 for 1 trading doesn't take place, in which case it would be a non-issue.

Umm yes. Anyone who gets 6 possessions playing in the WAFL as a midfielder should get automatically delisted.

Put him on the rookie list please

You're either really connected or posting wild theories from 2 months ago.

Only thing I'm connected to is the internet ;)
Rumour gets mentioned now and again in the media. Last time I heard it mentioned was by Caro on Footy Classifieds about 2 weeks ago.

hmmm, caro.......... She was the only football journo who tipped the eagles to be in the bottom 8 this year, so she MIGHT be right again. Or in a more probable scenario, she's just out to get the eagles again and just wants to fuel the fires of confusion and doubt.

When? Last 2 games have been 20+ possessions and before that he has been thrown everywhere from HFF to tagging roles (maybe that's the 6 possession games) to BP or CHF as in the last couple I believe.

Besides I'm sure 6 of his possessions are worth more than 24 of Hinkleys. Oh and those people that want to bag Fletcher for his disposal should have been watching Hinkley, from Swans, cough it up 3 times in a row, not in the midfield or backline but HFF when the game was up for grabs.

James Thomson (delist)
Jayme Graham (Trade) better off as a forward i reckon.
Braun (He's retiring at the end of the Year)
Mitch Brown (Trade-hasn't made an impact at afl level)
Chad jones (Delist-well he's out of form and can't get a game)
Sam butler(delist???????)-not too sure but he's too injury prone atm. Wasting a spot on our list

Sir, I can safely say that your credibility in this discussion is irrefutably shot.

LOL

Last year Brown was an encouraging player at CHF but he didn't really make an impact. I'm pretty sure he was well beaten by Pavlich in the Pre-season cup at CHB. atm he is out with a knee injury. And most players are never the same after an injury like that. I'm sure we could get value for him at the trade table. If we get offers for him we should listen.

If he stays, good for us :thumbsu:

Brown ws very good in his first season, and is very ready made and physically mature. Big, strong, athletic, smart and agressive, with good skills, all the things you want from a prospective KPP. He just had a knee reco and hasnt played this year.
Butler has too much talent to be thrown away. Once he gets his groin right (which i am confident he will) he will be a gun. Was averaging 20+ posessions in 2006 when he was 20 years old.

Value? After a knee reco?

Let's trade away promising 2nd year first round draft picks because they got beaten by Pavlich in the pre season cup. Sounds like a fantastic idea. You are a shining light for humanity.

Twit.

So if Fletcher moves to the veterans list next year - is that effectively the same as freeing up a player off the list?? I think it might be because the veterans list is connected to the rookie list.

So Fletch could play out his contract in the WAFL and be a useful spare and it would still free up a spot for next years draft.

I wondered the same thing, but I think just his salary is subsidised.

Correct me if I'm wrong...

Promise is correct. Go watch Rnd 1 2007 against Sydney again. It gives a glimpse as to what he could be in the future.

Very few KPP's automatically have significant impact at AFL level. It takes a few years to get their body's right to be able to stand up in the contest. Brown is already a big boy, bigger than most at his age. He could reasonably have been expected to make a greater impact this year, and indeed, was looking pretty good during the pre-season until he got injured.

You're talking about a 1st Rnd draft pick who showed something in his first year. We'll possibly (though I suspect not because of the knee) get some interest, but unless any offer is well above par, we shouldnt even be considering them. He, Kennedy, McKinley and LeCras are our future forward line, and individually, the potential looks significant. I very seriously doubt the club would look to trade him unless he requests one, and every indicator he has given so far is just the opposite.

In short: Not frakkin likely!

Back on Topic:

GONE FROM SENIOR LIST:
Micheal Braun (Retired)
Jaymie Graham (Traded/Delisted)
Chad Jones (Delisted)
James Thomson (Rookie List)
Steven Armstrong (Delisted) :(
Chad Fletcher (Veterans List)

James Thomson (delist)
Jayme Graham (Trade) better off as a forward i reckon.
Braun (He's retiring at the end of the Year)
Mitch Brown (Trade-hasn't made an impact at afl level)
Chad jones (Delist-well he's out of form and can't get a game)

Not sure what's worse, your woefully misinformed opinions or your stubborn defense of them.

Brown & Butler, are you crazy? They are 2 of our best prospects, but both are injured.
Chad Jones was dropped because of injury not form, I think he will be given 1 more year to try to make it. He was not in gun form and was muscled out of a few contests, but he was showing a little bit right before he was injured and that may be enough to save him.
Thomson is actually showing a bit in the WAFL and the paper is suggested today that he is getting close to an AFL debut.

Good show.

C Jones are Graham are the most likely to be delisted.

Not sure why many are saying that Thomson will

He was selected as a development pick and it appears that he has improved a lot since last year. From memory he was also reasonably impressive in a pre season game at the start of the year.

Graham is as good as gone. That is one sure thing there.
Braun - retired
Chad Jones - Wont make it now, as we have abudance of decent key forwards.

The next three choppings are out of Fletcher, Wilson, Thompson and Armstrong.

Possible trade baits are Staker, Seaby and McKinley.

So from that there will be atleast one trade, 4 choppings and obviously Brauny retiring.

I wondered the same thing, but I think just his salary is subsidised.

You're wrong:D

At least, I think so. My understanding is we have a list of 38 senior players and 6 rookies and veterans(+ potentially a NSW rookie)

So this year we had 38 senior players, one veteran (Braun), 5 ordinary rookies (Wilkes, Wilson, Arrowsmith, Sullivan, Stevenson) and Davis.

Before the pre-season draft we need to get the senior list down to a maximum of 35 so that we have at least 3 picks in the draft. Fletcher and Wirra can both (I think) be put on the vets list but Wilkes and Davis are both likely to be promoted to the senior list to take their places, so we still need to cut/trade at least three (probably four) players.

Cones, Graham are near certainties. The other two will probably come from players requesting trades (e.g. McKinley, Staker, Spangher, Kerr?) or it'll be someone unlucky like Armstrong or Thompson.
