If that is true....ouch!!!!!

0-3 would be more than a little worrying. Next man up I guess. Yet to see a game but will get down on the weekend. By the looks it could be interesting.
Couldn't fault the effort 'mio'. Talent just won out in the end as it normally does. Not a great standard of football generally I thought.

I'm sure you are happier with Maplebet. Starting to jump on the T-Train...

I'm no bookie, but at this early stage I'd have OT, DLS, UB and OX all around the $4.50 to $5.00 range as there's probably not much splitting them at the moment.

Everyone else would be double digits IMHO

Not so sure about Blues. Yes they are winning against poorer teams, but on paper they do not look as strong as last year.
I expect them to lose against one of Maplebets new big 3.

Rumour has it that a big footy SKOB ban is in place. Interesting.

No ban in place.

SF – you generally provide a balanced and honest view of all things SKOB. I saw them round 1 and was very impressed so really surprised to see them 0-3. What’s your take on how they are tracking?

There also seems to be seems to be some reluctance to confirm the rumours that Gysberts walked before Rd 1 and Gilham is fact overseas for 2 months, not 2 weeks. Are you able to put the record straight?

Sitting in the coaches box on Saturday was Gilham, Salopek, Bail, Lynch, Dowd and Gysberts when he arrived late from work commitments. Handy outs most would agree. And great to see they've bought in and are there supporting/coaching even when injured.

A very young SKOB side stayed with OX for three quarters but talent and experience prevailed. A great day at TH King - i'm sure all who play there this year will enjoy the deck and the facilities. SKOB will string a few wins together once those players, plus Kelvin, Nash, Gleeson, Matheson are back in.

No one on here is really talking about the step up in quality from B to A. It's a testament to Premier and stalwart teams like OX, De La etc who play an incredibly exciting brand of footy. Both games against SKOB have been fantastic to watch, there is some serious talent running around in the ammos

I know. I just thought it would be nice to get some input from SKOB posters so we know what's up.
Mission accomplished.
Maplebet has wound them back into $9.00?after the coaches box comments. Write off the preseason import policy at your own peril it says.

Speaking about the quality of VAFA Premier football, would be interested to know what the standard is like in SA Amateur football.

Perhaps Jon Edgar needs a quiet word with his high performance / conditioning staff (if in existence), as such a high injury rate to players over the age of 28 is a real concern.

PS: no one from OMs is complaining about the jump in standard from B to A as far as I can't tell. :p

Doc's post sums it up perfectly, but he forgot to add Williams & Morris sitting there as well, and Wood, Andrews & Jones sat there last week. I'm waiting for the 23 of our best 22 out remarks which I find amusing but it's all good fun. When others start noticing our outs it speaks for itself. Our depth has been tested more than most & OX's lost some soldiers early to test theirs, but anybody who witnessed the classic game before the seniors would agree that both clubs have quality depth & will be contenders. Only rnd 3 gents, take a moment to enjoy this glorious Autumn day.

Collision injuries & work demands Scribe, zero relation to conditioning.

Inappropriate to mention soldiers going down on the Anzac weekend

No.
Great that people love this weekend so much. Mentioning soldiers going down i hope further brings to the attention of our younger kids just what the mighty Anzacs did for us all. RIP

C’mon SF was hoping for a bit more substance than just rolling out the names of players who have missed games. Your seniors and reserves went 40/0 in the H&A last year and you were as close to full strength as you could be in round 1 and still lost in both seniors and reserves (and at home in front a huge crowd after unfurling your flag). Gysberts hasn’t played all year and may not at all. Gilham is overseas and Williams is a VFL player so any appearance with SKOBs is a bonus. Both played in round 1 as did Bail, Wood, Gleeson, Andrews, Salopek etc etc.

Must have been a bloke dressed in a Steve Gilham mask there yesterday. If you're so intrigued with SKOB, go and compare last years reserves side and last years Grand Final side with yesterday's team. I think you'll find 13 premiership players missing last week whilst 10 plus a few recruits didn't play yesterday.

He's also referring to Chris Gleeson, not Gerard, SKOB full back who only played in a VFL prelim for Collingwood in 2014. And as far as blokes playing vs De La round one, De La have also beaten OX and Collegiens, so what's your point?

I find it funny that SKOB gets all of the comments, what a sad world some people live in. Surely common sense says people should be talking about the reigning A section premiers if they are talking about the little brother who won in a lesser division last year?

And Scribe, no one cares about OM's except you and AM. The premiership cup looks nice down at the King.

I’m more intrigued with the entirely predictable response. Didn’t take long.

Predictable because they are facts, but let's not let facts get in the way of your posts. Go and get your own and paper and look for yourself.

At least we don't promise blokes listed on VFL teams senior games sight unseen to get them to sign, ala De La Salle. Then play them in the ressies then under 19 when you realise they're no good.

How about you be happy you are 3-0 instead of bagging another club?

BTW, you should also be happy that the more talented SKC boys not playing AFL play VFL over the VAFA, we have 34 there at the moment.

By predictable I mean 1. You blaming losses on player absences and 2. Dealing with contrary of other posters by abuse.

And really your reference to the boys in question is simply idiotic (no surprises there). If you must know they came back to the old boys club of the school they attended until yr 10 entirely of their own volition because they hated every minute of the school they attended in yr 11 and 12. Nothing more and nothing less.

Go back and argue with school kids about APS football. You destroyed this forum last time and I fear that the informed posters who have only just returned will quickly depart with you back on the scene.

Abuse? Am I missing something? Where is the abuse? Disagreeing with you and suggesting you do the research is not abuse.

Your comment about those boys 'hating every minute' is abuse and immature.

Who are the informed posters? Ones who say Gilham is overseas? Gysberts won't play again? You're obsession is very concerning.
As I said, why aren't you talking about your team being 3-0 instead of potting other clubs?
Lol.

You go get 'em Brian! :thumbsu:

Point taken SKOB Football. Collision injuries and ankles/knees are largely unpreventable. Sad that so many of the big names are in that predicament.

Frankly, given the huge numbers on your list, those of us peering in from the outside would presume you'd have decent cover. Hopefully the injury gods will start to smile on SKOB very soon.

As for my (and AMs) largely unpopular interest in OMs, well others may join with me at some stage in the future, and perhaps into 2017 it would seem, as they appear to be more firmly on track to stay in the division at this early juncture.

Not so sure about Blues. Yes they are winning against poorer teams, but on paper they do not look as strong as last year.

This illustrates the point I've been making (perhaps ineloquently) in recent weeks.

VAFA footy is prone to significant changes in playing personnel and club culture from season to season.

Looking at teams "on paper" can be unhelpful as it is rather superficial to presume a moderately successful club in one season needs to have recruits/additions in order to improve.

Conversely, the mere fact a successful club attracts new players (from higher leagues particularly) doesn't mean successes inevitable. What really counts is the players' motivation for joining the club.

Using De La as an example. Williams and Rayson return having played solid VFL footy (in previous years). As far as I'm aware, they are returning to their original VAFA club to play for that club, as opposed to with a couple of mates. It doesn't matter who is in the 22 that runs out, these type of guys will crack in 100% all day long.

Subconsciously or not, in my opinion, the players who come across with no prior playing connection, but are there to "play with their mates", could be a shade flat if/when a mate, or several mates, are not running out in that 22 (due to work/injury/absence). It's just not quite as enjoyable, and thus even though they are genuinely there to play their best, internally it can be harder to motivate yourself.

There are obviously other factors at play, but I still believe clubs investing and trusting in their home grown emerging talent will be a more prudent means of establishing consistent output and long term sustained success.
